Description
Problem Solved

It sounds funny because the God debate is often portrayed as such a profound and insoluble riddle. But if you actually do Google it, you’ll find plenty of articles about untestable hypotheses, anecdotal evidence, Ockham’s Razor, and other useful info about how to evaluate claims, as well as info about evolution, cosmology, particle physics, and other relevant subjects. (I’ve even written a few myself.) Sure, you’ll also find websites like Answers in Genesis, but if you read everything that’s available, you’ll understand why it’s not called Correct Answers in Genesis.

So if anybody asks you why it’s irrational to believe in God, you can just tell them to Google it. And if they accuse you of naively oversimplifying a complex issue, just direct them here.

Examples of useful info that can be found by anyone who is genuinely inquisitive:

If you're Christian you should be more loving and tolerable to others. We're all humans, no matter the belief system. It's just, we don't all think alike. We're all different.

Look ,you're no better in trying to convince me of something. And you also have nothing to prove. They have already tried to make me a christian for a long time. I took all the gifts I got with the sacraments ,but I do not believe. For one simple reason : To forbid things in life because you don't like them is wrong ,also for a deity.

Well, I believe in God, but I don't think the existence of God can be scientifically proven. The closest you can come is the "nothing comes from nothing" argument, which, while it provides a scientific theory in favor of God's existence, doesn't actually prove his existence.

EbolaSparkleBear In reply to AgentBabycakes [2012-06-09 16:12:09 +0000 UTC]

A scientific theory is “a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world, based on a body of facts that have been repeatedly confirmed through observation and experiment.”

Your 'nothing from nothing' comment does not provide any science regarding anything.

Okay, so I worded it wrong. I'm not a scientist, okay? So sue me. All I'm saying is, that while 'nothing comes from nothing' SUGGESTS that there is something there, it doesn't PROVE it. I don't agree with the statement 'there is no God.' But I'm willing to consider that point of view. Which is probably more than can be said for a lot of believers.

I do NOT, and never will, believe in God. It just seems silly. He's not real. The way of nature simply created everything. But if God is so real, why doesn't he give a shit about us?

And, just FYI, Jesus Christ was NOT born on Christmas. He was born in the summer. Isaac Newton was born on Christmas. -.-

Adam and Eve is impossible, and is basically the same thing as the story of Prometheus and Zeus, but with different characters and a different premise. I'm not believing in something that was based on polytheistic religions that were around way before Christianity even came forward.

I'll tell you who created Adam and Eve... A bunch of old guys with quills and parchment. There isn't any logic behind "the garden of eden" story. The human species as we are now have been around for 250,000 years. Not 6,000.

Just... good gravy, find out your own answers rather than accepting everything you're told.

I don't believe in God... Nope, I believe in Xenu Etrawl! Villain of space and aliens everywhere, responsible for the deaths of billions of aliens in Earth volcanos 75 million years ago! Don't worry Xenu, one day you'll get out of galactic prison! [link]

I believed in god. then i've became nihilistic. well a bit. i shouldn't pray to him for hope-i should give myself hope and a drive to keep going without him. I don't need him to take my hand and guide me a path everyone had probably already taken. Nor do i feel the need to capitalize the h or g anymore when talking about a god that has no name (why doesn't he have a name?).

I dont understnad why people think believeing in God is stupid... to those who do believe in god, he is almost your best friend, someone who is always there, even if e isnt there physically. Telling a christian that God isnt real, is like telling you 5 year old child that there imaginary friend isnt real, its their choice to believe you or not.

EbolaSparkleBear In reply to MissSimply [2012-06-09 16:13:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh man, this is is going to incite a huge flamewar, isn't it? You're going to get a lot of those religious nut types in here who with foam at the mouth with fervor over this topic and how everyone who naysays is WRONG WRONG WRONG and an agent of El Diablo or something. Nothing to be done, I suppose.

But you know, when you think about God, you have to wonder, if he loves you and cares for you and he's all powerful why doesn't he help you solve your problems when you need it the most? Why doesn't he keep the people you love from dying? What I wouldn't give for another day with my Nana. When you have the powers that God supposedly has, you have a responsibility to help people. This 'he helps those who help themselves' nonsense is just a copout for people who realize there's no one up there listening. It all boils down to the fact that people are afraid to die. The idea of continuing on after death is what fuels these faiths in higher powers.

And I also think we should give our children logical explanations instead of magical ones. Can you believe that for a majority of my early childhood I believed thunder was "God bowling?" BOWLING? Ugh. I suppose he rolled a 300 game, being god and all. How silly. If you want to believe in that 'miracles' nonsense become a juggalo.

Anyways...

Religion: Its given people hope in a world torn apart by religion.

They're not racist for disagreeing with a belief in God.

In order to be called a racist, they have to be deliberately spouting hate-speech against a certain ETHNIC group, as in people who are black, white, asian, etc. Not a religion.

Please pick up a dictionary and learn the correct definition of word before you use it to label people, okay? [link]
