Description For the longest time, something has been telling me that I need to feature a walk on cameo of Jim Davis's old pre-Garfield character Gnorm Gnat in Sue and Louie... Yeah, I know Gnorm was killed off in his final comic, but the idea's been bugging me(pun intended) for a while...

... Well, weather I do or don't, here's a test pic of Gnorm Gnat. If you don't know about him, your best bet is to Google his name. Until you get the real details, he was a bug in a comic strip Jim Davis did, but after five years he quit and squashed poor Gnorm under a giant foot. After that, he created a certain stripy orange cat that's known throughout the world now.

One of my close friends lives in Indiana and he's managed to actually find strips in a local library in a binder

I wish he took photos and posted them, but I'm sure they're still in the library somewhere

I'm a big fan of "Garfield", so I ought to know a thing or two about Gnorm Gnat from reading Garfield's Twentith Anniversary Collection in Jim Davis' "Early Days" passage. I knew who Gnorm was and that he was killed off in his last comic. Also, Jim Davis attempted to give Gnorm here a wide syndicated audience, but was rejected when he was told that people "can't really relate to bugs", so he made up a cat.

You know about as much as I do. I've been looking around everywhere for a Gnorm Gnat comic collection... Or even just a single comic.

I just always laughed at poor Gnorm, cause I make a comic with bugs- and people relate to it. Times sure have changed... /\/\

I think I myself have seen two pictures: The "Final comic" where he gets crushed, and the cast list. I forgot the cast though, but there was a slug in it that sounded like he was the predicessor of Odie.

As far as I got, somebody told him that nobody can relate to an insect.

He killed off his own character?

That's hilarious.

It was kind of cute in a way...

... Mostly, I think it's rather... I don't know- creepy.
(I feel the same way with certain death animations in videogames. It's strange, but if a character gets killed in a horrable way- and there's a definate sense that they're dead rather then just [link] like what happens normally, it makes me feel all shivery... Even if they're just lines on paper.
You know those cartoons where a wolf blows up and gets turned into a fur coat? That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about... I guess I'm just on the sensitive side when it comes to good characters...)

Really? Wow, I think I'm a sadistic freak then. xD;;;

I laugh at that kind of stuff. O_o

But I admire your stance. That didn't come out right, but you know what I mean, right? xD;;;

Hey, I laugh at it too- it's just that after I finish laughing, I cringe and think "Poor guy".

Unless I'm not supposed to laugh... Ever see the Disney version of Tarzan? The death of the villian in THAT movie was one of the gruesomist(sp?) things I've ever seen Disney do.(If you haven't seen it, the villian gets tangled up in vines, and in an attempt to kill Tarzan, accedentally ends up cutting them so that he hangs himself.)

I know- Not many cartoon characters end their career by getting killed, but you gotta admit when it happens, it's kind of eerie.

I didn't know Jim Davis created a different character before Garfield. Interesting.

He's also done a comic strip starring Mr. Potato Head... I'm not sure if it's still around, but it was actually pretty clever.
