Description
Influence is a powerful thing. This is another rough for a concept I want to do about a kid in an abusive home. So much goes unsaid about the issue, and how it affects children today. I'm going to do my research on it. Feel free to give me some helpful suggestions. To *sashagabrielmommy , she suggested the title should be "Setting the Example for future generations"

Hope you got to do this project. A to common situatian for many children, women and men. I would hope us earthlings to get the confidence to never have to abuse or oppress another earthling. Domestic or worldly. Ashamed that men, almost exclusive, stand for the statistics. We have a long way to go.
Fantastic illustation by the way.
Regards
Robert

Whoa! Now that's dark, and yet Daddy seems to sum up the total accumulation of all that is wrong in our society. Some children tend to take from their youth into adulthood. As a child from a broken home that had to deal with domestic violence, this strikes a nerve as it brings back horrible memories of my mother bleeding from her head after our stepfather smashed a large piggy bank over her head. Running from the house trying to escape...no where to run, I had to go back what else would I do, I was only 8? Then the arrival of the police and more violence. Yes, I called this man Daddy too. The positive side is, it taught me the hard way to be a real man.
The dynamic angle and eyeflow enforce the focal point beautifully. The red is just enough to get the point across without going to far into brutal-land. Like that of a Hitchcockian movie the impression of violence without having to be to graphic provokes the view to think and forces them to see the focal point. All the while the black and white still makes me think of Hitchcock, truly a genius as is this illustration.

Your story is heartbreaking, tears of my own began to form as I only later found out in my life that my father had sexually assaulted my sister. You never forget these things...

good choice making it in black 'n white and keeping the blood in red, gives it more strength

Oh, and one more thing - I really, really like the title for this. When I saw it combined with the picture, I actually *heard* it - in the child's voice, as he walks into the doorway, innocently asking, "Daddy?" and then the father as he freezes, turns around and realizes (for better or worse) that he's been seen. That's a heart-wrenching moment, right there.

There's something about how this picture was drawn that just catches you, you know? It's gotta be one of the most powerful - and therefore, most unsettling - pieces of artwork I've seen on this site so far.
Personally, when I see this, I see the loss of that child's innocence - even if he is not the direct victim of the abuse, he has seen more than any child should.
All that being said, I want to commend you for taking the heart to depict something that cannot be easy, and for doing so in a way that while provoking, is also sensitive to people who have gone through experiences such as this. You have my admiration and my thanks.

This picture is perfectly composed. So unsettling... dutch angle is very well used. Also this picture could come off as cliche, but it does not!!! Just beautiful and soooooo sad.

I'm not sure i wanted to fav this, if that makes sense. Its an awesome, emotive piece, but fav-ing it made me feel guilty, like i like to see this kind of thing.
Its a credit to you that you can make a piece of art that will make so many people conflicted about how they feel.
True art is confronting as well as beautiful.
This is a true art piece.

Wow. I love how the focus is on the parents, with the child only a blur in the background... And the more retro style clothes (I can't think of a better term for it than that) kind of give the feeling of "this isn't a new issue." Very impressive, but also very depressing...

I honestly think "Daddy" is a perfect title for this picture. It makes the unspoken focus of the picture the child (Whereas if it were "Stop" etc would bring it to the woman) and how his father is setting this example. He may be a horrible human being for beating the mother, but to the child, that's still "Daddy" and that's what's so heart-wrenching. Especially when considering the fact that most abusive parents came from abusive households. Just what is that child going to grow up into?
I love the black, white, gray and red color palette. It's a very powerful way of highlighting the numerous things going on.

I love the white outlining and almost silhouetting effect. The touch of red in the otherwise black and white picture is fantastic as well.

I've been working on a concept for a series that deals with the same issue but from the child's perspective and how they interpret what is happening. I'd can't wait to see where you take this.

Very nice atmosphere, and definitely a powerful subject.
The figure in the doorway didn't immediately strike me as a child though, which seems like something that would be important to your impact. Since the kid is back-lit, might I suggest emphasizing a child's proportions (maybe by making a thin neck more apparent? this could highlight that large head look which many children have, as well as emphasizing the figure's frailty)
I look forward to seeing this, and your other ideas, develop in the future!

Great piece and very intuitive comment...the only thing I can think of to make it more powerful is to set it in a more 'homey' looking bathroom. This looks like a public bathroom, which makes it a little more impersonal than I think you would like. Very good choice to have it monochromatic aside from the blood, AND to not have too much blood as well.
