My entry for *Asaenath 's "Melancholy" Contest.

I was browsing through my friend =karemelancholia 's Contest list and i saw this and was instantly inspired.
However it was not until i read *Asaenath 's description of what melancholy was that i go the idea for this piece.
I wanted someone really beautiful but slightly sad and what i would associate with melancholic.
I then added the spiders..(which i hated doing...i hate spiders with a passion....but i did it for the piece) because apart from being the spawn of satan i thought they'd look really good carwling across her....creeping like a deadly disease..like the one described in the quote.

I was also inspired by a piece by Jason Chan, he is such a great artist. I really wanted to make the point that even though beauty is much sought after by most people, if you are blessed with incredible beauty...it must also be a curse....imagine enchanting everyone you meet....imagine everyone falling in love with your looks rather than you.....

...a very great affliction indeed.
