Description yaaay my first tutorial

pleas ask if you have any questions.

have some exceptions concerning the eyes and fur+glue

Eyes:
*you can also use glass marbles as eyes, paint them and put some glossy varnish on.
*if you want to sculpt your own eyes in the clay you just have to put on a couple of extra lairs of glossy varnish when your finished painting them.
*VARNING! be careful if you want to use plastic eyes, they can melt.

Fur+glue:
*not all fur fabrics like super glue and they might not stick.
if that is the case you can try to put some fabric glue on the fur on the aria that is going to be glued on, when the fabric glue has dried then apply the super glue on the face and try again.

were you might find the things you need to make your own soft toy:

*super glue: most bigger stores have super glue.
*fur fabric: most fabric stores have some kind of fur fabric.
*glass pebbles : you can find them in crafts stores and flower shops.
*supersculpey clay: craft stores and art supply stores.
*soft filling for toy making: crafts stores and fabric stores usually have that.
*glossy varnish: can be find in crafts stores and art supply stores.

Depends on the plastic.. And the temperature of the oven... I put my my little pony in the oven at 120c for 15 min to bake the moulded hair...

so wait you can paint the eyes and then put them in the oven?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellaSofran In reply to ZelenJackArt [2012-02-10 13:34:01 +0000 UTC]

yes on these glass kind of pebbles i paint them before i sculpt the face, the paint is protected by being pressed against the clay(i paint the backside of the pebbles). when i use glass marbles i paint them after the face is baked.

Thanks for this! It's great! I was wondering if you've ever sewn the faces on, and if so, any tips? Glue frightens me.

BellaSofran In reply to BuckWulf [2011-12-02 20:15:18 +0000 UTC]

thanks well when its a sculpted face its not that easy to sew in it so i have just used glue, ive found better glues to use after i wrote that tutorial, one that is elastic but still very strongbe brave use glue

judehere [2011-02-23 09:57:27 +0000 UTC]

This is probably a VERY stupid question
but...
at my school, they only have clay which is fired in a kiln.
If I were to make a sculpture with the glass pebbles, would something happen to the glass pebbles, when firing it in the kiln?
^_^'
ahaha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellaSofran In reply to judehere [2011-02-24 20:37:01 +0000 UTC]

*BOM* the glass pebbles will either explode ore melt. super-sculpey clay is usually find in any art store and then baked in a ordinary oven.

good luck!

BattleNeko [2010-07-28 17:51:53 +0000 UTC]

So this would leave you with a hollow Sculpey shell for the face... are there problems with that breaking easily? Super Sculpey isn't the most durable stuff when dry. Obviously you don't want to sit on it or anything but does it need special care to avoid breaking?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BellaSofran In reply to BattleNeko [2010-07-28 18:02:56 +0000 UTC]

i sculpt the face almost a inch thick so usually sculpey is durable enough whit that thickness. and i fill the head quite hard so it has some support. and that makes it more durable.

i make them that way because a hole head in sculpey would be to heavy for the body.

hope this answered some questions.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BattleNeko In reply to BellaSofran [2010-07-28 20:48:29 +0000 UTC]

Alright, thanks. I've made things out of sculpey before and had them break easily, so I was curious as to whether you had the same problem. The hollow head definitely makes sense, though.

Thanks!
