Description
I've just finished altering the red dress - it originally had a rediculously long and heavy train, 5' of extra material! Which I have taken off, and then re-hemmed, taking the front hem up too. Then re-attached the marabou. But red dress came with 2-hoop crinoline, and since I'd just finished, I thought I'd play about a bit! To see if I was right that the bubble dress (pale blue) really needed net petticoats not a crinoline, and I think I'm right. Obviously, to anyone familiar with Glinda's bubble dress from Wicked, this is missing a vital element - the bubbles! They're still halfway thoguh getting sequins glued on. They're gonna put quite a significant weight onto this underskirt.
ANYWAY. We have - top left - Bubble dress over the net petticoats made especially for it. Lovely shape on the hips, emphasising small waist.
Bottom left - bubble dress over crinoline. Far more A line, and the light fabric gives up at the bottom of the hoop - not satisfactory.
Top right - red dress over nets - the skirt is too heavy to poof out from the net at the hips, and it doesn't really support the lower skirts. Just not made to go together!
Bottom right - red dress and crinoline re-united at last. A line, huge skirts, just the way it's meant to be!
And the moral is: you need to have the right underpinnings to get the effect you want!
