Description just a simple tutorial showing you guys how to make your celshading looking smoother.

A little sidenote.. this technique would only look good if you use good/ok colors. If you use crap/ bland colors, it's going to look awful.

As for how to blend the linearts with the colors, bascially, all you have to do is draw the linearts separately, for example, the lines that's associated with the skin, hair, clothings etc.. must be separates.. well, that's how I do em. Also my lines are always above all my base/shade color layers crammed together in a folder. I just finds this easier to do.

Hope this helps

think this is the best cel shading tutorial ive seen, great job! but how do you get the color quality? is it that you do the black bg for the base colors and then switch it to white?

Do you just brush over the lineart layer to blend it with the color?
also, should the lineart layer have a transparent background or white background?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cobletking In reply to Riighted [2012-03-01 21:04:57 +0000 UTC]

You go to the line art layer and you select the lines by using the magic wand and then you create a new layer on top of the line art layer. Then you lock the original line art layer and go to the layer on top of it and start coloring it with a normal hard brush.. or whatever you want... Sorry for taking your question...LOL... and this is an awesome tutorial!!

Riighted In reply to Cobletking [2012-03-02 11:48:52 +0000 UTC]

It won't select the whole lines there will be dots everywhere

Try using the big selection tool... Just select the whole picture or the line art..

Do you use the pen tool or the lasso to do your shading? or do you just use the brush?

I have a question. How do you get the base color to have that " anime" look to it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

benderZz In reply to HakunoYuki [2011-07-06 02:23:52 +0000 UTC]

You just have to shade it properly. If you meant the one without shades, all you have to do is change the colour of the lines so that it kinds of blend in with the colour. It doesn't have to be exactly the same colour, just similar.

Just some questions :

You made the line-art with the Pen tool, right?
Are the shades also made with the Pen tool?

I'm asking this because a brush can't look THAT precise and with straight, sharp lines.

Hi! I've managed to remove the white from the background of a lineart but I'm still not sure how you can change the colour of the lines. Great tutorial otherwise

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Konnee In reply to Barbicanboy [2010-12-13 11:01:38 +0000 UTC]

easy - lock the layers thransparancy ( where the layers are there is a square with a square pattern ) and then just draw with a brush any colour that u need u will just draw on the lines , not touching anything else )

Neat trick I'll have to try it I'm a big fan of copying the flattened layer apply an effect then cutting it, hitting undo and pasting the deleted new layer on top...then I lower the opacity of that effect.
