Description
This is my first (and not the last) submission to DeviantArt. I'm trying to get back into the mood into doing 3D and have decided to practice on modeling characters. I chose to model my interpretation of Princess Sally Acorn of the Sonic the Hedgehog Franchise if present in a video game today. All my works I consider WIP and would love to hear the feedback of the various communities. Stay tuned there will be more to come! You may also be interested in...

sonicunderground316.deviantartβ¦
Yeah mine is based on CCN design and Archie version rather than the SEGA one. Like i said, it's stil a W.I.P. but comment are more then welcome !

No, this is "my Sally". This was done long before the "New Sally" concept was revealed. I've seen the "New Sally's Photo " and I'm not really diggin' it. It's very similar to my idea but I think it's too busy looking, sporty, unoriginal, and the colors contrast too much and too often. I personally never liked the square thing they keep putting on her boot. I'm having problems myself deciding on what type of foot wear she should have. In my opinion Sally isn't the "sporty" type and you don't have to be "sporty" to be a tomboy or an independent girl. Her gloves are basically Amy's with a color change. Her shorts are basically Marine's with a white border. All the "Modern" Sonic characters have their own individual style gloves and footwear and neither character's apparel look alike. Her head and vest is about the only thing I'm okay with.

I think the "sporty" direction was to make her more fitting when paired up with Sonic.

I didn't think it looked that bad.
I mean, the jacket might've complicated the design a bit, but it wouldn't be Sally if she didn't have it.

It's no problem. lol Just wanted to voice my opinion of the possible "New Sally" redesign and used your comment as my way to do it. Sorry about that.

Hey, this is beautiful! I know someone looking for a 3D sally acorn model, I have a message that I sent to the original 3d model we found but they haven't got back to us...so is it possible that you are willing to let my friend use it? I'll send you the exact message if you want so you can know why my friend wants to use it and what she'd use it for and creditation etc etc...

If your asking what program then, Autodesk 3ds Max. It takes time and dedication. It's not something you just throw together like in Photoshop. I hope to be at that level someday where I can just throw something together in 3D and it will look great.

Thanks! It's probably the "no mouth" and the shoes that remind you of Amy. At the time I designed her, I couldn't think of a different shoe design for her and just gave her Amy's (like a default, placeholder). Since then I had the time to actually draw it out on paper and I've finally came up with a unique shoe design for her that fits her character. It won't be updated anytime soon but hopefully before the year is over with. (I'm unfortunately very busy )

also the proportions!
I love it so much though. Are you planning on doing anything with it? I'd love to see you attempt some animation with it. one of the best/only models of her ive seen. there was one other that looked 360 like but this one looks like the dreamcast would render it without a problem and is still beautiful, lol O:

I am working to create scripts and a Sonic SATAM Generation video game, I already have a Sonic 3D Model, now need one for Sally Acorn. If you could give me the files for this I would gladly give you updates and would allow the credit for the model to you!

THANKS! That's a huge compliment for me. All the games have their strong points but I love the whole theme of "good vs. evil" and the blurry line between them in SA2B. Also all the characters seemed to have more of a personality. I personally wish they would steer back in that direction. Thanks for your comment!!

There isn't a "How to" on how to do this but there are a lot of free teaching materials online that will teach you the skills, methods, and the tools required to create 3D models. It takes a lot of practice. After you learn the basics and get comfortable with a particular program you can model anything you desire. If you need more detailed information send me a note.

The character model was made in 3ds Max. I didn't use the typical methods to create her (like reference images) I just envisioned it and went to work. It takes longer this way but I'm trying to develop my artistic "vision" as well as my talents.

I agree that this is what she would look like if she was ever returned to the franchise. They should bring her back, in my opinion, because she was such an eccencial character.

Thanks! I'm glad you agree. I think they should include her more too. In modern games they attempt to have a coherent engaging story but they always seem to fall flat with mundane dialogue and stale stock characters. She is not required for gameplay but as a story element her character or someone like her is very essential to flesh out their current empty bland "game world". The games now are finally heading in the right direction gameplay-wise (hold my breath) but between Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Unleashed there has been a lot of misses story-wise. Sega needs to wake-up and take real control of their property and unify their vision for Sonic like in the 80's & 90's that caters to everyone without sacrificing their characters integrity and not just catering to one side of the planet.

It's amazing how epically you can ruin something with just a slight change, especially in terms of cartoons and videogames. At the same time, it's amazing how epically you can IMPROVE something with just a slight change!

Nice! very well done! I like that you keep the Sega feel to it. The Sonic Maping Team ([link] ) should use this model instead of their own, maybe a little retexturing would be nice though

Thank you, I'm flattered! I'm glad you like the model. I'm not too familiar with the "Sonic Mapping Team" but it seems they did put a lot of effort into creating something new and different and I applaud them for all their hard work. I love feedback, could you expand upon what you meant by re-texturing? What parts in particular did you have in mind?

I guess you could make her hair and fur look little more "fuzzier" if you know what i mean. basicaly add a little more detail but it's just a suggestion
