That doesn't look too bad!
Maybe the trees on the left are a bit too dark so you should have turned your camera more to the right to capture the nice white trees and the calm water instead (and as you said use a tripod and the self-timer next time

I tried to get the trees on the left as they bended into the water and created a bit of a curve for the shot, perhaps made it a bit more interesting, I will try again tomorrow with similar shots
