Description
The Ayarz, or occasionally Kobold, is a rare elemental and a dangerous one. The most social and intelligent of the elementals, the Ayarz is as likely to destroy a human as help one. Even those that bond with humans (and many do) may ignore the best interests of their hosts in favor of their own advantage. Such betrayals may occur after decades of subtle manipulation or in the first weeks of bonding, making metal-magic unpopular in most regions. Some guilds of magicians, however, most notably those in the five major cities of the Commonwealth, manipulate these elementals with notable success. The secrets of their order are many, but most sources agree that Ayarzi respond most positively to dialog and rhetoric, arguments backed by mutual benefit and sealed with carefully worded contracts. This process cannot be easy, but those who tame an Ayarz are quickly rewarded with wealth, fantastic knowledge, and deft skill with weapons and machinery. There are many who say that, although most cities are ruled by a noble water-wielder, the manipulators of metal give the true orders.

I was actually fortunate enough to play with an aeolid nudibranch when I was in college. (what can I say, we were both drunk). Seriously though, Bowdoin College's Marine Science Labs pump water in directly from the ocean, and these things would sometimes get in as plankton past the filters and then just show up one day in the tanks. It was tiny, maybe as long as the nail on your pinky, and gold.
But this critter I painted is a lizard

That's awesome! I handled an opalescent nudibranch ([link] ) at a tidepool on the Oregon coast once; it's still one of my most memorable beach experiences (along with finding a dead skate). I was like, "Hey, this is brightly colored, probably poisonous--I better pick it up!"
Ach, I know it's a lizard; but I can dream, can't I....?

Yup! Sorry to disappoint you about the whole extinct iguana thing, but I still have three more to go, so you never know.
