Description Here's my humble tribute to Frank. Thank you for so many years of inspiration.

I need to learn how to paint...this was my first time trying to do a full moody nature scene. Many many flaws, and it's really not done yet. But, so it goes.

Hey. I said I could see FRANK Β in your work before I even saw this one . There will never be another but we can all carry on down the trail he blazed .

That's very kind of you. Β Yeah, I have no idea how he was able to do what he did. Β Lots of imitators, but everyone pales.

FRANK WAS HIS OWN THING IN EVERY WAY. I DON'T THINK ITS GENERALLY CONSIDERED THAT BEFORE HIM THE FANTASY SCENE WAS TOTALLY DIFFERENT. HE WAS UNIQUE HIS INNER EYE WAS ASTOUNDING. THANKS SO MUCH FOR GETTING BACK TO ME I DON'T THINK WE COULD HAVE SHARED A BETTER INSPIRATION AND I DO VERY MUCH ADMIRE YOUR FANTASTIC ART.

rad painting, especially for something that isn't done yet. Evokes Frank but preserves your style. Keep em coming and thanks for sharing.

Wow, this is really an inspiring piece. The more I see of your work, the more I like! Even though it's sketchy, I really like the mood here. In fact, I believe the sketchiness adds to the overall atmosphere.
Again, it's inspiring.

I lucked out I think. Well, Frank's stuff is so ingrained in my memory that I managed to squeeze this off without first refreshing my memory of what his stuff looked like.

hells to the yea! when i saw the thumbnail..i was like bitchen! a frazetta tribute piece...rest in peace frank!great tribute piece...his death has rocked the artworld! i cant see how much art gets released by his family now that the masters gone!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BenTanArt In reply to Bait-n-switch [2010-05-17 20:42:00 +0000 UTC]

Heh, good to know it reads in thumbnail. Actually when you think about it, it's amazing that a person's work is so recognizable that you can recognize someone else's lame-ass attempt to imitate it.

Bait-n-switch In reply to BenTanArt [2010-05-19 19:09:28 +0000 UTC]

yea!im more shocked that the immortal frank is dead...got real drunk last monday...but i feel his images are more family to me than the real life pawns i find in my physical realm..i search for people with souls everyday..but your art was not a lameass attempt at franks style..it kicked ass..you are able to do so many styles!!i dont ever return comments to people i dont admire extremely...looks like you got some big boots to fill nowthat franks gone...lol!anyhoo!great piece bro..you fuckin rock!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BenTanArt In reply to Bait-n-switch [2010-05-19 19:56:44 +0000 UTC]

Hah, thanks. I appreciate the sentiments. It's definitely interesting to try on different styles, and I feel like I learn a lot when I do that. Perhaps at the cost of developing my own style. But then I look around and there are all these amazing artists. Can't think like that though, of course. But it's good motivation to get better. I feel like in my own art I'm always seeking some kind of elusive vision.

...but I ramble...

Thank you very much for the cheering up!

Bait-n-switch In reply to BenTanArt [2010-05-20 06:44:24 +0000 UTC]

..sounds so familiar...i am always seeking new styles..so much so..i cant nail down a stylei think i just have so many influences these days and enjoy sculpture painting and drawing not to mention teaching kids and inspiring my friends.......so i really understand this elusive vision...maybe if u just work from photos ,life and your own imagination for a while u will strictly be working from your own vision..and all this influence from your masters will come to rest like a great cosmic soup and you will be rocking a style all your own that you can enjoy and finally find rest..from your vision quest.....yes be of great cheer! these warmer days are quite a relief!..never change your avatar its the sh*t! peace-out bro!
