UPDATED VERSION:
INTERACTIVE FLASH of this robot:
This is a digital interpretation of my diploma thesis at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin.
Here I developed a fluorescence detector to read out special chips with thousands of tiny reaction vessels.
Well, the real ChipReader looks a little bit different than the one above but it works in the same way.
Hope you like it!
There is also an overview of the workflow:

Hey Bergie, very cool pic - very impressive - could've done something like this during my thesis time on Diffraction !

Hi Bergie,
I did two projects to make up my unversity thesis, the first was the schottky barrier effect and the other was a project on Fraunhofer diffraction, all very interesting and enjoyable. Although, seeing you artwork, Max Planck are very lucky to have such a talented artist .
Kind regards
Rikesh

indeed, it sounds very interesting.
did you invent a new generation of diods...?

Morning Bergie,
No such luck, just more of a proof for my Professor - but was very interesting anyway.

it's awesome only one problem ... the hand needs to be bigger ... if you study your hand you'll see that you can cover your face with it ...

Hey, thanx for your detailed watching.
i often heard this critique, but i do modelled the hand in the correct size (watch the youtube video - it is the same model).
the problem is that i have chosen a bad hand gesture. the hand is tilt to the back and therefore the hands shrinks.
i didnt recognize it when i started the render...
Well, you learn with every single render!

yeah i know but then again no one cares what you did. they care more about what they see in front of them at that time ... and they see a small hand ... even though it's affected by perspective like everything else it still looks to small ... either the perspective is to brutal or the hand is just small ... there is no way such a close angle can make it that small ... i even went to the closest mirror to check the angle out before i posted just to be sure i don't speak out of line .... so i still think it's small and needs to be modified

Bergie81 In reply to EvilMist [2010-01-11 17:41:44 +0000 UTC]
well,
there are also other things that might be modified.
but i when i finish a project i put a line under it.
as you surely know, new projects are much more interesting than messing around with old stuff.
new idea -> new chance to create a better render...

Thanx,
Well, there is a link of the workflow that shows some details...
I rendered this image with the amazing maxwell render.
I didnt use HDRI. it was just a simple collection of cylinders with light material applied. whats really great, is that you can adjust the light settings of every source (intensity, and color) and camera settings (ISO, shutter, f-stop,...) afterwards... it is a lot of fun
(next limit should pay me some credits for making this promotion... )

Great ligthing... the surface shader are stunning.
Did you use HDRI for reflection? What software did you use for rendering... ?
Outstanding Render!
