Description
Doug and Hey Arnold! are 2 of my favorite cartoons of all time (and they're 2 of the best). Last night I was doing a quick drawing of Arnold and I was thinking about how I might go about drawing Arnold in the style of Doug. After a while, I decided that would be difficult to pull off well, so I decided to try drawing Doug Funnie in the style of Hey Arnold! first. I think it turned out pretty well. The two Hey Arnold! characters that helped my design the most were Brainy and Lorenzo. Obviously, Brainy's hair was the inspiration for this take on Doug's hair. Lorenzo (a more obscure character who came in later in the series) provided me with an idea of what the head shape would look like. For the logo I used the Hey Arnold! "Hey," the Doug "Doug," and created an exclamation mark design to match the Doug font. Afterward, I decided to add the wavy line from the intro of Doug, just to give it a little bit more personality. I'll confess that I didn't draw the wavy line, but I don't feel very guilty about it.
Eventually, I might do more in this series. I haven't given up on doing Arnold Doug style. I hope to translate most of the major characters from both series into the other style so I can do some fun group shots.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Doug, was quite mild-mannered, but he had a lot of imagination. I think that's where his personality really came out, when we were able to get inside his head.

But even in his imagination he was kinda boring
Even his superhero hijinks weren't anything special

Gotta disagree there. One of my favorite memories of Doug is when he imagined himself as a James Bond-like secret agent, then tried in real life to seduce Mrs. Wingo in order to get back a sketch he drew. Hilariously awkward. There's also the time he did the Quail eye on Roger in real life when they were about to fight.

i miss this show so much. It was my second to favorite show when it came to Hey Arnold. It was one of those shows that taught us something valuable too, and along with a laugh.

these two have always been at the top of my cartoon list. they're quite different, but they share a hard to describe quality that's missing from animation these days.
