Description
ATTENTION (before reading): THIS IS NOT A PHOTO, IT'S FULL 3D(I said that 'cause everybody asks me so!)
hi fellas
I's been a while I was busy with my final year project (which is a short movie called "Focal Point") and I was not able to do any other artworks. and tell you what? we are done with the "Focal Point"
ok, here is the final look of the magical camera I made for our short movie. it is full CG and a pure render with no post production.
It's done in 3Ds Max 9 and rendered with Mentalray.
it has around 2 million polys and ten 4k textures was used to add more realism to it. I will add some wireframes if you like.
for the friends who asked, here is a making-of video: [link]
ciao

thanks
I took lots of photos of old woods. then combined them and hand-painted the worn-out edges in photoshop
most of the textures are created that way

hahaha
thanks man! but seriously, its the matter of watching carefully and paying a lot of attention to details, then a lot of trial and error to see what is working best.
textures are quite important too; besides, the knowledge of materials and shaders helps a lot.
and thanks again for the compliment

This is absolutely astounding. I saw it yesterday in the Daily Deviations section and thought it was a photograph. When I looked at it closely, even in full-view, it still looked like a photo. I have absolutely no experience in 3D art so it feels like magic when I think of people creating such incredibly detailed images like this.
The texture work is just...wow. Everything from the slight tarnishing on the metal to the wrinkles in the leather to the extremely genuine looking shallow depth of field effect shows an amazing level of attention to detail.
The subject matter makes me smile. While I was at college I spent ages using cameras like this, both in the studio and outside in the pouring rain in the middle of winter trying to get clear shots of architecture. Using those cameras gave me a fuller appreciation of the process of photography so seeing one rendered with such care is wonderful.

If you did not say it was not a real photo I would have still been scratching my head trying to decide. Very realistic. Nice piece.

Wow, a very impressive 3D piece! The lighting is so convincing that it had me fooled when I first saw it. I'm impressed your hardware could handle all of those polygons.
Seriously awesome. I admire your modeling skills on this one.

HOLY CRAP!!! IT LOOKS SO REAL!
It must have taken you weeks to make it. 2 million polys, my LORD! And you're making a movie with this thing? What kind of computer do you have?!
AWESOME!!!!!!!

thanks man
I have a very ordinary PC
but I optimized the scene so that my PC can handle it
for the render I sent it to a render farm. because it would take for ever to render.
