looks great and good to see the stages. Is the original sketch done freehand then scanned in or is it sketched via the tablet too ?

Hey John, good to see you.

The sketch for this one was done directly in Photoshop but I try to alternate digital with pencil sketches.

Looks great! Ruffly, How long does it take you to get to one step to another?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BikerScout In reply to LucasCube [2008-08-26 05:51:36 +0000 UTC]

It varies. Sketch stage takes about 30-45 minutes. Blocking the base colour takes about 30 seconds! Then I just take a screenshot every time I think I've made some progress since the last shot.

This one is taking a while because of the amount of detail. From the point where it was nothing but a bloc of solid grey to where it is now (stage 6) is probably about 8 hours give or take.

So takes some time for sure, but I bet you get faster at it the more you paint right?

BikerScout In reply to LucasCube [2008-08-27 06:18:32 +0000 UTC]

Oh absolutely. The great thing is my painting methods are always evolving and it changes with every piece.

This particular painting is very much like a sculpture. I'm starting with a featureless block and gradually carving out the detail - the detail of the wrinkles is a lot of fun!

I bet, I'm very excited that I get to keep up with your work. Hell if I could afford it I would request Tom Hanks so I could give it to my girl friend, or Adrian Monk (Anthony Marcus). That would be primo to see.
