I red Memoires of a Geisha, a wonderful book, in which they describe a lot of kimono's. This is a beautiful kimono, a very elegant and beautiful lady too!! Seen her before (bilsabub)! This is a great shot. Love the line of the kimono in her neck!!!!!! I love her hair, after reading the book I now how they have to sleep with this beautigful hair, without ruining it. I like the dark background. All the attention is for the bride now!!!!

That is a wonderful book. It always amazed me that it was a work of fiction written by a man.
Thank you for your wonderful comments!

Thank you!! Yes, the writer did a good job on that!!! It's a thick book, but I wished it was thicker! It's so interesting! It's always nice to know the background of things.

absolutely stunning. I love the vivid colours, the fantastic DOF, composition and simplicity that we associate with Japanese art. Brilliant capture.

no worries mate. I'll be arriving on Nov 26th. I'll be around Himeji mostly. It would be awesome if we could meet up though.

Himeji? We don't get down that way. Actually pretty far.
We'll be down in Kyoto next week, but leaving on the 26th.

Beautiful shot! And amazing detail! I can almost count every stroke in the hair! She looks very pretty. I once saw a bridal kimono on display, it's quite impressive.
I also like the blurred background, it really makes the bride stand out...

Amazing. I imagine your profile version will be just as great as the pro photographers portrait I love how defined she is against the black background. Even her dark hair is distinguished against the background colour. I like how she is positioned in the frame too.

Why, thank you!
I'm sure she'd never see a profile shot in her photo album. It's not a typical Japanese wedding pose.

Well I'm sure she would have enjoyed it as much as the pro photographers shots. It suprising they don't choose to have any profile shots as the detail in the clothing and hair is so intricate and beautiful from the side. Definitely not to be missed.

Beautiful composition in this Bill. I see you're putting your new gear in good use.
I'd just cloned that little bottom left corner black, I find that speck of yellow/white a bit distracting. Otherwise I cannot fault your beautiful work.

I certainly am. Although I've had that lens for several months and it's still my favorite.
I looked at that corner for a second, which was about as much thought as I gave it. Sorry it's distracting for you, though.
Thank you so much, dear!

Hehe. I know I need to be at times, but I don't think much about things like that. Funny though, 'cos I can pick up the most minute detail in someone else's picture that bugs me. Go figure.

i thought japanese brides weren'y meant to smile?
i mean she's not exactly 'beaming' but she is smiling... i thought it was not proper etiquette for japanese brides to smile or something though... but then that could have been some random made up crap i got from somewhere too...
anyway... talking about the actual photograph... i love it. the way it is just her and all about her is awesome. and teh blurred greeny background really suits. nyeah. i like it.

Oh, they do smile. I have plenty of shots of them doing exactly that. But they don't for their pictures.
Beaming was more a commentary on the brightness of her gown than the extent of her smile.
Thank you for your comments!

Doubtful that you're insane.
It's entirely possible that it's that way for the formal ceremonies. But once they're done...
Plus, the younger generations of Japanese move further and further from traditions.

Good night, talk about sharp! What lens was this? The look on her face is amazing...everyone else might be entranced, but she doesn't look quite so confident. And that hair is a work of art in and of itself!

My favorite lens, bar none. EF 200/2.8L. Sharp as a tack, all the time. Even wide open, as this shot was.
She is a work of art. Everything about her. The hair, the makeup and especially the gown. Exquisite.
