I tried out your tutorial and I must say it was very effective! Here is my result.
Not nearly as good as yours, buts its my second try coloring a horse with a wacom tablet.

Random, but they have chesnuts of their hind legs as well.

some horses even have them on their back legs hidden under their feathers mostly on pony drafts and draft horses. But those arn't called chestnuts, they are called something else.

I've only ever been around horses enough to notice it on only their front leg. then again i don't think i want to be screwing around the legs of some cranky schooling horse XD
