Description
While 'Splinter' may not stand out from horror movies' standard stock story- or execution-wise, it has probably one of the most disturbing yet believably existable monster concepts I've encountered. A slime-mold-like parasite that spreads its spores via needle-like spines and uses its hosts' bodies to seek out more. But my highest praise for this organism is that unlike other cinematic biological recombinants (looking at you, 'The Thing'), it doesn't have the capacity to analyze and properly use its host's anatomy, splitting flesh and breaking bones into grotesque deviations as a fluid form conflicts with more solid biology. I cannot sing this monster's praises enough, and so I urge everyone to go out and see this movie immediately.Related content
