Description
Silver pendant. Made because I'm always searching for cog-inspired jewellery but aside from custom stuff, none is to be had.The saw work isn't the greatest in this one but I figure it's no to shabby for a first try.
And I don't much like the polishing machine. It's scary.
1/7/05- Updated the image with a much better one. Also included is the wonky little clasp I made for it. Crazy.

Keep up the excellent work and I'm sure you will find something. I warn you that the world makes artists, but the customer makes us slaves.

Seriously. Handmade, one of a kind and sterling silver. It took me about 9 hours to do the cutting alone.

Well, look at it this way; The materials for the piece are worth around $40-$45 alone, that means that that profit-wise I'm left with about $60, at best. Since the piece took around 11-12 hours to make that works out to an hourly wage of about $5.00. Keep in mind this is skilled labour that I've had to invest a significant amount of both time and money to learn, and I'd be making substantially less per hour than if I'd taken a job flipping burgers at McDonald's. You woulden't ask any other professional to work for $5 an hour, would you?
If you're not interested I completly understand, it is a lot of money;I'm not going to hold anything against you. I'm just explaining my logic out to you.

yeah. One reason I'm in jewellery is because I can so seldom find things I'd consider wearing. I have odd taste, apparently.

I wouldn't say odd, just particular. In your case, it's a good thing, I think.

I currently do, actually. Just on a super-duper limited basis. They'res alot I don't know how to do and most of my shop time has to be spent on class projects.

Is there a place where your commission status can be seen? I agree that finding cog/gear themed jewelery is nearly impossible, so I figure it would just be easier to commission someone.

well, mostly people just tell me what they want and I tell them whether I can or not. I'm only a second year in the program. so I haven't really made the bigtimes yet. and unfortunatley, due to the fact I'm holding down a job and in full-time college, I've only got time to do one or two commission piecies a term (I mean reasonably complex stuff, with stones and chain and all that good stuff. If it's a simple piece I can usually crank it out in few hours) and I've currently got a bit of a nasty one I'm chipping away at. I'm booked till January.
If you've got something in mind, though, and aren't in a big hurry, I'm absolutley more than willing to talk. Send me a note or something like that.

Quite beauitiful work. I'm especially fond of the ginko leaves. They have such unique shape to them.
And thanks. my instructor went to extreme pains to teach her students the clasp should be just as important as the pendant. It took me a few tries before getting one she'd actually concede to grade.

I reaI like everything about it, only thing I would want different (I am not pro by any means) would be maybe a thicker "chain" to give it a more sturdy look... but I really know nothing about anything. just felt compelled to comment.

I thought about it, but the only problem with that is I'm allergic to most metals. At least when they're in contact with my skin that long.

Okay -
Wow, I know nothing about how to make jewerly, but I just wanted to say that I'm always impressed by your work and how much thought and care goes into each piece. If I had the money, I'd totally comission you. And don't take that as an empty compliment - this stuff is worth saving for, ha ha!
Anyway, please continue to make such great and unique art; the world will be greatful!
-K!
