How to Create and Manage a dA Group

I founded a group on dA (AnimeArtAppreciation ) over two years ago, and I have always been its sole administrator. I've discovered a lot of tricks and methods that I find very useful in running my group. I wanted to share that advice with anyone who is managing a group or wants to create one.This is just my personal opinion. I do not claim that my way is the only way. But this is what I've found that works.

OMFGGGGG!!!!!! I was wondering how the heck I suddenly had so many favorites for this, and then I saw the comments! I literally burst into tears. Seriously. Thank you so much for the DD!

Heh... it's funny how i've already being doing most of this, i think i only lack the contest thing (wich i'll wait until the group has enough members) and the group icon, wich is unique but doesn't get's to ones eye, have to change it

Ok, maybe you can help me out here: I have my own group, and I already follow most of what you laid out here (see sig), however, for some reason whenever a person comes by to join, they tell me that they get a message saying that the group isn't accepting new members or some such, and no matter how many times I mess around in the settings to fix this, it still pops up.Β
Oh, and from what I've heard is a good way to maintain a group is to have group associates. Can't say for sure myself since so far I don't think any group accepted any of my associate requests.Β

I personally don't affiliate my group with many others. It might boost the popularity of your group a tiny bit, but I don't think it helped at all with my group. Couldn't hurt, though.
As for the membership thing... that's interesting. This is the only way I'd know to fix it:Β
Go to the admin area.Β
Click "manage members".Β
Then click on "members" on the lefthand side.Β
On the right it will say somewhere "join requests."
You can change the option to be "subject to vote" or "automatically approved."
The settings should automatically save, but I'd hit "save now" just in case.Β
My only guess is that you were changing the settings for "founder" instead of "member" or something like that...Β

I don't know much about adoptables, but your group looks like it's off to a great start! I really like the icon
Because it's focused on something pretty specific, I would definitely find and invite lots of deviants who you think would be interested in joining.
