Description
Took me only about... 14-17 hours to make. Very proud of how this Samus perler came out~I kept running out of so many beads for this, but it was so worth it. Me and my dad are pretty big Metroid fans, and I decided for him on Fathers Day that I would make him a Samus perler. This Samus perler is 1 ft. 10 inches tall, and 10.8 inches wide. I think this is probably my largest perler yet, and I am very proud of how it came out. And YES, it was terrifying to iron and flip. And to show the scale, that is a quarter next to the perler. I based the design off of this:

And I give credit to the artist:
Samus belongs to Metroid, which belongs to Nintendo

Holy crap! 14-17 hours to make a full-bore, full scale Samus Aran Perler?
Sweet Jesus, that's bigger than my SF III 3rd Strike Chun-Li bead sprite I did two months ago, and when I tried to measure the piece, I didn't have enough time to do so.

Still, it's pretty cool for you to make this on Father's Day. Excellent job on making the bead art look 3-dimensional.

Back in the day? How long does it take to make another Perler art, out of curiosity?
You may leave a comment on that picture within the link. And you're welcome. ^^

Well, it can take just a few hours still, but in much better time. A piece that is on 2x2 pegboards can take about 3-4 hours-ish? It can depend on the type of sprite I'm referencing

For me, when I was working for a retro video game store in Vegas, a bead art piece that's on 2x2 pegboards usually takes me 2 or 2 1/2 hours to make. Granted that I have all of the necessary supplies to make a piece of pixel art. Now when it comes to the full bore, full scale pieces of bead art, it may take me roughly 5-6 hours to make. I made a Charmeleon pixel art for a friend, and seeing that I was bored as heck, I made the pixel art in less than 2 hours. And that bead art piece wasΒ on 2x2 pegboards.

This is FANTASTIC! You are wonderful at this, I didn't even know people did this...I used to play with perler beads when I was little, this brings back memories and is absolutely wonderful! Keep up the great work!

How DID you manage to flip it? Did someone have to help you, or did you use a big piece of cardboard, or something else?
π: 0 β©: 1
Birdseednerd In reply to SirEschaton [2012-06-15 05:16:01 +0000 UTC]
All I did was carefully flip it as carefully as possible without any kind of problem. I did use a spatula to make sure no beads were sticking to the pegboard, but really, I didn't get any help when I flipped it.
