Description
" Dogs vs Wolves" for Speedy du Jour at60 Minutes
Under normal circumstances I don't paint canines, and so when I need to, I fall on the almighty backup plan, known as stock photos. Considering I need to get it right enough to differentiate between a wolf and a dog, it was even more essential. Because, left to my own devices, my dogs risk looking like cats. Or horses.
My first instinct would be to paint puppies. They are to art contests what biological warfare is to weaponry. In my meandering search for references though, I came across this rather miffed looking grey wolf, and fell for the idea of taking that and pushing it a bit further with a more appropriate pallet and some angryfying details. The rough painting effect my corel painter blender brush makes also seemed a nice fit for that scruffed and ruffed look. But I do believe I still don't have a proper fur brush...
With a bit more time I would have worked on making some finer hair details, but when the time runs out, it runs out

I'm sorry to hear that. It's a bugger when finances limits our choices in medium and method, but I hope it'll get better and that you can get what you want to do done in the future

Wonderful expression! And I like the rough style. Maybe a little to soft and smudgy on the wolves right side at the bottom but that's not too important. good piece!

I'm horrible at painting or drawing fur, so I'm jealous of this. It looks like a wolf. Not a dog. Good job on the muzzle and ears.

You did a really good job on this. The drawing has a wierd effect. It's like the wolf draws the viewer in.

Thank you for saying that By the way, if the wolf does have a gravity field, it was entirely accidental

The pleasure's all mine.
That's cool though. Some of the best creations in history were all by accident.
I think yours goes into that category.

Oh you spoil me with you compliments Thankfully my feet haven't quite left the ground yet, so I know it's still quite a ways left before my accidents get into the category of the best

Well, As long as you keep illustrating, you're bound to get to where you aim to be. I'll be watching you in the meantime.

Thank you The effect you like probably comes from the blender tool in corel painter. It's like a very strong smudge tool with teethy texture.
