Description
" Dogs vs Wolves" for Speedy du Jour at60 Minutes
Under normal circumstances I don't paint canines, and so when I need to, I fall on the almighty backup plan, known as stock photos. Considering I need to get it right enough to differentiate between a wolf and a dog, it was even more essential. Because, left to my own devices, my dogs risk looking like cats. Or horses.
My first instinct would be to paint puppies. They are to art contests what biological warfare is to weaponry. In my meandering search for references though, I came across this rather miffed looking grey wolf, and fell for the idea of taking that and pushing it a bit further with a more appropriate pallet and some angryfying details. The rough painting effect my corel painter blender brush makes also seemed a nice fit for that scruffed and ruffed look. But I do believe I still don't have a proper fur brush...
With a bit more time I would have worked on making some finer hair details, but when the time runs out, it runs out

I think it looks nice without too much detail. rough art has its own charms.

Wow, I love your style. The rough brush strokes give it a very traditional and hand-painted feel, not like many digital pictures that are over-blurred and ran through 1340980934 filters xD

Nice painting. Strokes are smooth, and the wolf's expression is very descriptive of itself.

Awesome job...I love that traditional painting feeling you managed, what program do you use? if it PS do you use any specific brushes?

I'm glad you like it I use Photoshop for the main work, but the traditional effect comes from using a Corel Painter 11 blender brush and dragging the paint about, which I do at the end.
