Description
" Dogs vs Wolves" for Speedy du Jour at60 Minutes
Under normal circumstances I don't paint canines, and so when I need to, I fall on the almighty backup plan, known as stock photos. Considering I need to get it right enough to differentiate between a wolf and a dog, it was even more essential. Because, left to my own devices, my dogs risk looking like cats. Or horses.
My first instinct would be to paint puppies. They are to art contests what biological warfare is to weaponry. In my meandering search for references though, I came across this rather miffed looking grey wolf, and fell for the idea of taking that and pushing it a bit further with a more appropriate pallet and some angryfying details. The rough painting effect my corel painter blender brush makes also seemed a nice fit for that scruffed and ruffed look. But I do believe I still don't have a proper fur brush...
With a bit more time I would have worked on making some finer hair details, but when the time runs out, it runs out

Dogs have always been hard for me, and to see how you not only managed to draw it, but also put an expression on its face is very impressive. great work

Thanks though I did mentioned I had help from a reference. On my own animals tend to look like the result of unfortunate genetic experiments

Wow. This looks really good. Don't mind the furr details, it looks like if it was a real oil painting. You just captured that miffed look.

Thank you very much I've been doing limited time speed paintings for a while now, which eventually teaches you to get faster one way or the other.

Thanks Those brush strokes are actually from the blender tool in Corel Painter 11, it's like a very strong smudge with texture.
