Description
I was reading around my messages when I saw Sola's journal post [link]I knew a lot of people had the common sense of a tin can, and the current teaching system is under a huge strain (both my parents are teachers so I'm well informed there), but I never knew things were this bad already
A stamp might not be much to fight such a wave of ignorance, but it's far better than to sit back and do nothing
If you want to help spread the word feel free to use this. No need to Fav or to leave a note asking permission, though I would thank if you left a comment so I have an idea how many people are using it

Yes, everything said can be open to interpretation and work differently depending of the context, but honestly those are often either very specific situations or just an argument of semantics. That's not what I'm trying to argue here
Instead what I'm trying to say is the world is not black and white. It's not a fight of semantics or trying to find minuscule loopholes and screw everyone over it.Β It's about how common sense is a set of general rules people are expected to know, or at least learn, in order to be free to worry about the more important stuff and live healthier lives in generalΒ
As for common sense not being uncommon, sadly the actions of many people seem to suggest otherwise. And that's the point

it always annoys me when the waiter or waitress comes by with a plate that they just lit on fire and sat it in front of you, and they say, "Be careful, it's hot." I'm like, wtf, of course it's hot. Are you implying it should have cooled down in between the 3 seconds you lit it on fire and it got to my table? or that the fact that something is sizziling and smoking not an indication of heat?.... people...

Past customers and safety policy rules are most likely the ones to blame. The waiters are just doing their job

I hate it when your curling iron says, "Do not attempt to use during sleep", or the milk says, "Warning, may contain dairy products". So sad.

They say I have a lack of common sence because of Aspergers syndrome.
But then I hear about all these other people and I wonder why they say I'm the stupid one who lacks common sence. Oh well, I'll get used to it >.<

That's just an excuse (on their part). A lot of people don't even have one, besides being simple stupidity/ignorance/laziness Xp

This stamp, sadly, needed making. Thanks. I've been saying this for years...Common Sense is Uncommon now. I call it horse sense sometimes.
When product companies have to dumb down the instructions on food items (on the package) you know something's up.
I see high school grads who still can't spell worth crap. When I was in middle school I was ahead of my class in spelling, 'cause I WANTED to be. Voracious reading didn't hurt either.
Sorry if I got off topic.

Yeah I've seen similar cases around here too. Which was partially what inspired me to create this, since I didn't felt like there were any suitable stamps around (at least for my liking)
But the amount of idiocy some people have is absolutely amazing X(

Maybe the gene pool needs a new filter. Just kidding.
I think we all need re-education.

The sad thing is that most people in my country already gave up on this subject.
The ones badly educated are legion here. Kicking old people to piles of bleeding bones and flesh (there have been many killed here by young adults. Just for FUN). But you can't defend yourself or you will promptly beaten by "justice" when the parents use law against you.
Its ok parents are not allowed to beat up their children... but why are children allowed to beat up their parents because they want the newest handy?
Not only our societies education in civilisation is dead.
Half of my countries people think siberia is frozen all year. They think canada belongs to the USA and (worst of all) they start to forget what happened between 1925 and 1945 in my country. They also forget the elementals and try to PUT OUT A FIRE IN THE KITCHEN WITH WISKEY!
I used to say "somewhere natural selection died on us" but I also say "somewhere our parents forgot to teach their children and their children forgot as well".

Birvan In reply to cheetahtrout [2010-03-23 13:08:13 +0000 UTC]
I think that's a problem in all countries
Here in Portugal we thankfully don't have much violence and criminal behavior (part of the cultural heritage I guess), but the latest generations having growing dumber by the year and parents are trying to shift their responsibilities of educating their kids more and more
It became even worse when a couple of years ago the government pointed the teachers as the culprits for the students performing poorly. True there are some bad teachers but you can't teach something that's unwilling to learn and expects good grades to fall on their lap without a bit of effort. And then kids are amazed when they reach university and the teaching system is far more demanding (though half of them are too drunk and more focused on partying to care)
As for the parents they treat the teachers almost as a daycare center, where they drop their kids in the morning, pick them in the afternoon and expect them to be well behaved and successful (which of course fails because many aren't give proper education at home)
And there's those who complain they don't have where to put their kids during holidays. I even remember a suggestion they made where the schools should be open on weekends so they could leave their kids with the teachers while they used the facilities for BBQ parties. A bit more and they'd expect the teachers to birth the children for them X__x

Its exactly the same here! O A O
Like, every word is the same! When germany went bad at PISA they blamed the teachers as well and the parents don't care an inch for their children anymore. they simply expect them to become magically educated by themselves and blame the wrong people when this magic does (surprise surprise) not happen.
