Funny thing about Port, everyone else considers black roosters extremely unlucky, but he's the only one (that I know) that considers them lucky. Just about every portuguese home has a statue of one to bring good luck XDThe reason he likes them (besides his love for everything gallinaceous) is because a dead rooster saved a man from being hanged [link]
This was partially based on a story told me on how a portuguese tried to offer a Barcelos Rooster to an american

Portugal is not afraid of him. Actually he pwned him a few times in the past
One was when he was visiting Russia's house during the Soviet Union. When Russia invited him to visit Estonia he refused in his face, because he didn't recognize the annexation as valid (in other words he was saying Estonia was an independent country, not a section of the Soviet Union). Estonia was very touched by this (I found this info in his embassy)
Another is a rumor that Russia was kolkoling at Port, "advising" him not to recognize Kosovo's independence. 6 months later he was giving thumbs up at Kosovo (if there's one thing Port hates is people telling him what to do, especially when it's none of their damn business)
So in other words, if Russia ever tries to be one with Portugal he's going to get one hell of an headache >D

It kinda fits his character though cuz he is a creepy person.
See there was a cartoon from Russia that my friend brought back and in it a rooster flew down the chimney (covered in soot) and the people within the house freaked out because they thought it was black crow... maybe it's not the same thing - I can't really say that I know what I'm talking about because I haven't studied the Russian culture.

I had no idea black roosters are considered to bring "bad luck" in some cultures (they certainly aren't in mine). You learn something new everyday.

That depends on who you ask. Most black animals are associated with bad luck. Port is the only one I know that openly has one as a good luck symbol (and by openly I mean the insane devotion he has for that little statuette. It's crazy how popular it is)

Yes, I'm familiar with the concept of say, black cats or dogs being ill of luck but it never occurred to me that other animals of the same colour could be considered as such (much less a rooster).
