Description
Can you believe I've had this idea for mochi locomotion way before Himaruya started drawing them?I'm pretty proud how this turned out, especially since I never learned animation in my life

for some one who hasn't learned to animate in their life this is freaking amazing! the motion is very smooth and it blends together! keep up the fantastic work!))

It's well shifted! Small globe things that metamorphose are almost the easiest things in the world to animate, so I'm astonished to see something with such a simple subject done by a tastefully seasoned artist.
I muse say, love the little blob of followthrough as Mo here hops.

Considering I have absolutely no formal training in animation and I have a hard time finding good references, it's o be expected for me to experiment with simpler forms before tackling harder stuff

I also have no formal training as of yet, all my college work was *technically* graphic design, but I can hook you up with the best books to learn from.
And try thumbnailing motion and conceiving patterns in motion terms.

Here's your basics course:
Read Michael Sporn's blog
Read John Kricfalusi's blog religiously
Watch Thad Komorowski's bits for stuff to study [link]
50 Most Influential Disney Animators
(I'd say Cartoon Modern, but get a good grip on 3D motion and anatomy basics first.)
Read:
The Illusion of Life by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston (best book on animation ever written, tho it focuses entirely on Disney, mostly the author's Sketchy Period work (it was the best resource they had laying around).
The Animator's Survival Guide, Richard Williams o.o amazing shit
Animation From Script To Screen by Shamus Culhane
Guide to Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair
Art In Motion: Animation Aesthetics by Maureen Furniss
Hollywood Cartoons: American Animation in its Golden Age, Michael Barrier (I know he's dismissive of all you hold dear, but THE MICHAEL BARRIER)
Ralph Bakshi's Unfiltered...
They're all fast reads and library-availiable. (If your system is any good.) If you HAVE to buy them, they make EXCELLENT coffee-table books, about all of them.
I mean draw sketches of movement, not poses. That's the best tip I can give; learn to conceive the poses you're drawing as fractions of an overall movement. It took me forever to figure it out, but my tests improved considerably.
