I've often felt guilty about trying to do a "semi-realistic" illustration, but never trying to do clothing texture... I do recall one of my character's having knitted clothes; this could be a spiffy reference - thank you in advance...?

Seriously though, nice technique.

Don't be, that type of textures are often hard. That's why I often keep trying to find ways to "cheat"

Especially when they're relatively fine textures, as seen in many "typical" clothing in stores throughout the year - though for whatever reason, cotton/polyester blends stick out as an example. From a distance, you can't really see texture at all, and it raises the question: how big do those woven units have to be to warrant texturing?Β

That being said, I appreciate you sharing your cheats.

Most of the time you can get away by adding noise or another type of fine texture. Usually I only draw the texture when it's wool and even then it depends of how close your face is going to be to the fabricΒ

My pleasure. There's no point in keeping everything to myself

Neat; I've tried noise/grain, but rarely with good results... maybe I need to tinker more; and yes, distance is also a big factor...

Yeah... noise/grain can be rather fickle to use > >;
