After Grey Monday, one of the former Stormvanger lines was finally reactivated, though for a chassis formerly produced on Caph, the Cyclops. A limited production design, it was built specifically for Regimental Command Duties.

Built on a Composite Chassis, it is inherently weaker, but this was considered an acceptable trade off for a mech never meant to see the front lines. The most immediate change was the addition of a Command Console, allowing the commander to focus on the battle, and directing fire support where needed.

To accomplish this all the traditional weapons were removed, save for the arm mounted Medium Lasers, which were upgraded Defiance Model XIIs. Instead, the Mech mounts twin Defiance "Klopfer" Thumper Artillery Pieces. each with a 40 rd magazine. Finally, for point defense against infantry treat, is Small X-Pulse Laser mounted in a ball turret in it's belly, where the SRMs formerly were.

To make room for this, the 99-X makes use of a Compact Engine and Gyro, allowing a top speed of 54 kph. keeping it cool are 10 double strength Heatsinks. Protecting the machine are 16 tons of Glasgow Limited Primo Ferro-Fibrous Armor.

Some obvious flaws jump out, such as the lack of CASE protection for it's ammunition magazines, as well as it's lack of close in firepower. Both were considered acceptable, as the mech was expected to stay 3/5 km from the front lines, and to have it's lance as bodyguards.

A variant, meant for Battalion Command replaces the Thumpers with Arrow IV Batteries, and the SPL with a a TAG designator. Meant to fight at a closer position, and still give point support where needed. The units were just arriving to their regiments when the Jade Falcons began their bloody crusade through the Lyran Commonwealth.
