Description
Ballpoint pen and Derwent Procolour pencils on untextured paper. I've been working on this on an off for quite some time, sketching different variations and trying out different things. Originally I wanted it to be a fierce warrior holding a weapon, but I couldn't get the pose to work with any weapon I tried in the narrow format. But I'm happy that was the case, because I like it much better with the smol shark.
Available as a print through Society6 .

Oh-now I know this took you forever. I've got a Adult coloring book featuring merpeople and having to color scales and the seaweed takes forever! And I could just imagine drawing them. The shading is very well done though. Like I said in the other one, I like how this merperson is a bit androgynous which adds a bit of mystery to the piece. And also from the other piece, I'm wondering if the sharkie had a snack (due to the arm being gone from the elbow down) and maybe feels guilty so now their friends? LOL I don't see many merpeople with the scales coming up all the way like this so I think that's quite original. And you gave this merperson gills, a lot of times that feature is forgotten, but if biology theories are correct, they have to have. And I like the soft, yet realistic shading on this-it gives it a delicate touch. Once again the detail of the seaweed makes me very happy. I'm quite jealous of the quality of the edges and folds and shading, because you could apply the same technique to clothing and it would be amazing. You definitely know what you're doing and there's nothing that I can see that could be improved upon.

Thank you very much for your thoughts!
Whatever happened between mer and shark, there's definitely no hard feelings.
And you're right, the technique I used on the seaweed, was one I learned years ago in relation to clothing.

I really like your decision with the hair - those tiny curls can be such a challenge to draw realistically and they way you solved the problem looks super nice. Also the texture on her tail and the seaweed is awesome.
