"He's not coming back, Grim." The maid wearing all black grasped his arm as he entered the door. Her expression held a bluntness, that there was no arguing what she had said. Her grip was suppose to be a comforting but it just felt like ice against his skin. Grim clutched the rose he was given, surrounded by a haze of thought. What did they mean Leonard was not coming back? As his mind swam he was ushered up to the stand where Leonard lay.

Leonard had a small smile on his face like he was just having a small nap. Any moment he would wake up and play a bout of chess or sit their arguing politics with Grim. It felt like if he just reached a hand out and touched the other, the 92 years old man would spring up with a whoop and holler.

Grim knew Leonard was not sleeping, the thought caused a knot in his heart to grow. There was no life left in the shell of his former owner. The sinking feelings of an uncertain future by himself, alone, grew till he could not help but gag at the horrendous thoughts. Tears pricked his eyes but he held them back. What does one do when they discover that they are now truly alone?
