This was taken not far from where I live. It's right next to the local mom and pop video store ($1 rentals)I'm going to miss this neighborhood...

In some parts of the U.S., people in the neighborhood call their corner grocery store, the "bodega". So I chose that as the title for this. Here's a cool, funny video. [link]

Very urban, very old-fashioned-looking and very energetic with that angle.
I was in the same situation when they closed a store just three blocks away, but I stayed in the neighborhood and now travel by bus to a very nice grocery store that's twenty minutes away.
It works for me.
Sometimes it sucks for me not knowing how to drive but it was my choice. I've adjusted.

You and I are in a similar situation. I'm carless too and the nearest supermarket takes about 30 minutes to get to by bus (taking into account walking 5 blcks to the bus stop). There's a discount Save-A-Lot a little closer, but their selection is limited. The store in the picture is not one I go to, for the most part... There's a JJ Pepper a block and a half away next to the park.
I love corner stores, for some reason. There is a unique personality to each one.

I've lived my whole life not knowing how to drive and I live and work in places which are easily accessible by bus. The fact that I love to read just means that I'm handed reading time while on the bus. I feel lucky.

Thank you, sugar. Yep! The catch is, it's a dollar for VHS. I think it's 3.00 for DVDs. Even though that little video store has history for me. I find the i-net to be a much more convenient resource.

Thanks Scotty. I took this shot last winter with my Kodak Z740 point and shoot with a wide-angle extension lens (pre Canon 400D). Maybe I'll reshoot it with the new cam. Good advice!

Gracias, Denis. This was one of the final shots from my beloved Kodak point and shoot from January. I've got some more recent neighborhood shots on the way. I'm really into the personalities of city neighborhoods....not so much the trendy, yuppied, starbuck'd ones, but the ones where kids can still be found playing on the sidewalk.

The only neighborhood that I know where kids could play safe was my old hang in brooklyn and that was a loooong time ago (wonder if any of my old friends are still there playing stickball in the streets....hmmm, would make for some amazing photography!)

I might be able to stay in the general range of my area. I'm hoping to move closer to a supermarket. They closed one that was only two blocks away. Now I have to travel more than a mile. Not too much fun when one is car-less.
