Well honestly I think they make great rings, they are unique! I saw your other works like the Marcoons. I might be taking a class in culinary arts in my major sometime ^^ I hope I get to make those. I think you should make more of these they are incredible

Thanks!
I would so love to take a class for this kinda thing. Unfortunately, the only thing offered 'round these parts are the Wilton courses at Micheal's *pouts*

That has to be one of the coolest jewelry ideas I've seen in a while. How did you work the half dollars and preserve the text? Such a smooth exterior, too - I'm baffled!

Thanks for the !
First of all, I'd like to say I take no credit for this idea. I first found out about it on the Craftster forums, and then found out that it's been around for awhile - since my parents were in school.
Ok, now that that's out of the way *ahem*
I got this chunk of metal that was shaped sort of like a stair case, then set it down, flat side up, on our unfinished floor so it was slanted. Then I took the fifty cent piece and rolled it down the metal, tapping it with the hammer as it spun (I've read that this used to be done with spoons, so you could use one as an alternative ).
After a while, it gets fatter and the edges turn out, pulling the text with them. You want to start with a coin with really well defined words. One of my rings is easy to read, the other is not.
After flattening it, I drilled a hole in the center and spun it with a drill press. I held a file to it to smooth it out, then polished it with a chunk of copper.
Then I used a cylindrical file to make it ring-shaped.
One ring takes about... Ehh... 2 or 2 and a half hours, I think.
I was bored - I needed something to do

Have you ever taken a jewelry or metalwork class? If you like this kind of work, you should absolutely check out silver working. Ideas like this, with some basic soldering experience and varied materials can really develop nicely. I'd be curious to see what you come up with!

No, I never have. I've thought about it before though. I'm not sure how to get involved in them. I love making things - I'm sure I'd love the class!

Art galleries sometimes have workshops and classes, or know who to get into contact with if you're looking for one. I worked at my Chamber of Commerce one summer, and if they're anything worth their salt, yours will have *some* kind of local contact for galleries/workshops/artisan guilds. And if your local chamber doesn't, your call will alert them that they need to!
Other people to check with are college art professors - sometimes they run the community courses themselves, or attend ones in the area.
hope that helps ^.^
