Description Welcome to Cosmic Weavers, Words shared across space and time. With Cosmic Phoenix, Cosmo Dragon, and Cosmo Bruin.

CB: Hey everyone. I’m Dean Paddock, Cosmo Bruin. My hosts as always are Shawn and Douglas, Phoenix and Dragon respectively. And today, we are addressing a different topic. CPD field work.

CD: You actually were doing a good job. Keeping your head on a swivel, assessing potential risks, using cultural norms and tactics to implant yourself in a favorable position.

CP: Approaching an enemy commander to assess your reputation with them. Baiting the enemy into making mistakes as you walk through the snake pit without fear.

CB: Yeah, well, I learned from two of the best “field agents” of the department. Yeah, you both got real quiet. See, the department works in stages for every operation. First is Analysis. The desk officers collate all the information from all databases and departments we have access to. Then you have Field work like what I’m doing. An agent is inserted into the situation with the goal of getting eyes on the problem with permission to take small scale action as necessary as they gather any additional intel they can collect.

CD: And then you have mass mobilization, which is where you get squads working together to take action. Sometimes it is covert, sometimes overt. That was my specialty. I was good at rallying, planning, and commanding the CPD in a case where we needed to mobilize large numbers of our officers. Also weeding out corruption within the ranks.

CP: Well when you can literally be everywhere at once and you don’t have to play telephone, of course it l is going to look easy.

CD: And then we have the Disaster.

CP: Emergency deployment. And yeah, I was good at that. When a situation has escalated beyond what our mass forces can handle, the average officer is expected to retreat and our more decorated officers like myself would take the field and shut down the problem. Frankly, I’m not so good at the other things but I am VERY good at emergency response.

CD: And we had to put you on that exclusively because of the moon you-

CP: I was fighting a teleporting villain! I had to be quick on the draw! You try fighting in those circumstances without a shot going wide!

CD: This is why I prefer my blade and why you retired most of your arsenal.

CB: And it is that kind of caution I’m glad my powers don’t make me need. Anyway. After that we have the Debrief. Every operation ends on this and a mountain of paperwork. Paperwork I’ve never seen Shawn fill out.

CP: Oh I do.

CD: On sticky notes that he gives me… so I had to start writing them for him so we could have more complete records.

CP: It doesn’t take a lot of words to get a good read on the situation.

CD: Status Nominal: All Fucked Up is not a proper report for creating a new lake on a planet’s surface.

CB: And they are bickering again. See you guys next week.
