Description

When production of weapons was started in the factory. It was found out early on that  building the Lee Enfield No4 Mk2 and other weapons took a lot more time and material than the Carlos submachine gun or MAC 10s. So a weapons program called the Clár náisiúnta um airm chosanta or RCN was planed by the dail and the caugax council.  Was quickly organized to build simplified weapons, using some examples of simple volksstrum weapons from the Red curtain shipment. The first time the flying columns got these weapon they complained about it looking quite crude but soon found the guns to be as good or even in some cases better that the one captured from the British. The weapons were made with simple stamp steel and forging, machining and casting methods and even the bores were chromed to help cleaning. The grips and gun stocks are made from sawdust plastic composite injection molded plastic named fakelite after the color of the ironwood sawdust made many think it was Bakelite. The guns were built in such a way that it can use cannibalized parts from the guns were based on if a part on it was broken and vise versa. One very interesting thing found in the simplified weapons was a Celtic Dara knot. For proofing marks there was a upside down triangle with a star on it. The words "made in Tír na nÓg" on the top of the crest.  The guns were usually had the letters RCN to identified them as made by the program and some were even part of the famous Guerilla starter kit.

This rifle was the first of two rifles made in the RCN program. It was first issued to the 3rd west cork brigade as to replace some of there double barrel shotguns. Opinion on the rifle was varied among the IRA some found it innovating other found it ugly and crude looking but all of them found it very well made and reliable. It became one of the most common rifles giving to the IRA. Its The most common rifle found in the guerilla starter kit along with the Boer MK1.

2. CN Boer Mk 1 rifle

Caliber:.303 British

Info:  Based off the Spreewerke VG-2 The Boer MK1 was a mix of the VG-2 and parts from a pattern 1914 enfield rifle. It uses the bolt and barrel of the P14 rifle while the receiver was a copy of the VG-2 rifle.  The gun stock was made of solid wood costed in epoxy, the sights were crude but later were changed to ones like that  of the M1 carbine. The rifle was called the Boer because of it strong Mauser action and it accuracy compared to the Lee Enfield. The action of the Boer as so strong it was use to test hand loaded rounds of .303 ammo. It could also be dissembled in to 3 pieces and resembled with ease. It became a sniper rifle for the flying columns.

After the war they were very cheap and popular bush craft knives.

Group B : pistol caliber weapons

1. Model 1921 "Balor" Revolver "Nagant style"

The pistols had there original grips changed to fakelite one as to hide there origin. One of the most famous users of the CZ-83 was Michael Collins.

3. Prototype CN "Taranis" MK1 automatic pistol

Caliber: .455 webley (Colt) auto

Info: This early prototype of Taranis Mk1 is a stamped steel blow back hybrid of the Hi-point model JCP and glock pistol with a striker firing pin. This pistol was not viewed favorably by troop as many complained of the harsh recoil and bulkiness. So only 10,000 were made. It was replaced by a modified copy of the General Motors sheet metal Colt 1911 chambered in .455 webley auto called the Taranis MK1* The Taranis pistol named after the Celtic god of thunder Taranis, due to the pistol`s powerful .455 webley auto making a load report similar to thunder. The pistol uses a copy of the single stack 7 shot magazine from the Colt 1911 in .455 webley auto. The gun is considered one of the most reliable semi auto hand guns introduce by the time stranded townspeople to the 1920s. The IRA fell in love with the MK1* pistol when it was introduced in guerilla stater kits and the flying columns. The gun became one of the official side arms of the IRA.  A hidden hammer version of the gun was used by the Twelve Apostle and the bodyguards of Michael Collins during the war. After the war it became very poplar in the rest of Europe and the rest of the world. Being adopted by many countries.  The Mk2 introduced in the 30s became more popular and widely knowed due to it double stack magazine. Both pistols had plenty of knock offs made in Spain and Belgium.

4.  CN Webley revolver

Caliber: .455

Info: The Webley mark IV was the most requested revolver by members of the IRA. The townspeople had at lest  109,0000 webely revolver in there stock.  But the Puetro Ricans did not wanted to give all of those revolver to them as they had wanted them for training. So they made cheaper copies of the webley to go with some of the real ones to give to the IRA. These copies where a simplified version of the webley chambered in the semi rimmed .455 auto . The revolvers where made in such a way that if it where to be broken a spare part from a from a actual webley revolver could be used on this gun and vise versa . One of the most notable difference from a actual webley is the barrel. Instead of being made from one piece of solid steel it was made from three separate pieces soldered together. When the flying columns and IRA groups got the revolvers. They had there reservation about the gun due to it crude look, but soon found it to be as reliable as the real webley. The gun was known in the IRA as  the Mexican webley or the Caribbean webley while in Puerto rican service it was called the same as they call the real webley " el magnum inglés" the English magnum. It is common to find these revolvers with parts taken from other webley revolvers, these revolver were called "revolver criollo" in the town of Caugax.

5. Carlos submachine gun

Caliber: .455 auto, 9mm, .45 ACP

Info:  The Carlos was made for the need of a cheap reliable sub machine gun for the armed forces of the towns of Caguas and Gurabo. They were a several guns the Cuguax council wanted to make. The m3a1 Grease gun which was compact and could be chambered for both 45acp and 9mm and had machinery for it setup for it in the factory but the springs were difficult to make. The Sten gun which was very cheap and simple but had spotty reputation and the Carl Gustav m/45 a fantastic sub machine gun but could only be chambered in 9mm and the Thompson sub machine gun which was to expensive to make. A military engineer and amateur gunsmith called Carlos A. Rodriguez decide to combine all of the good things about these guns in to one gun. The gun took the simplicity of the Sten and the reliability and the vertical mag well of of the Carl Gustav m/45 with a M3 grease gun stick magazine that could use both 9mm and .45 acp. The prototype was finished in a week and was tested in the Alvarez hacienda by the suggestion of Caesar himself. The gun passed with flying colors and was soon in production. The first model looked like a m3 grease gun but later models were simplified. All of the models had a conversion kit for 9mm and .45 ACP /.455 webley with made it easy for to use any of the two ammunition available.  They were very popular with the IRA as they were cheap and very easy to make. Some Carlos were modified to use Thompson magazines witch the IRA had plenty due to gun smuggling from the U.S. but later on they were modified to take .455 auto. The Carlos was favored by The Twelve Apostles as it can be suppressed with only the bolt doing a light sound. It was the main submachine gun found in the guerrilla stater kit.

1. CN B-42

Filling: TNT/C4/SEMTEX

Info: This grenade is a copy of the soviet RG-42 but with a few changes. One of the most notable is the use a MK2 grenade fuse instead of Russian UZRGM fuse. The reason for this is because the factory was set up to make those fuses and were much more easy to make. This grenade was the first issued to the CDF then the IRA. The grenade was more powerful that the original mills bombs captured from the British due to it TNT or C4 filing.

4. MK2 (pineapple) grenade.

Filling: Varied

Info: About 30,00000 where found in the factory and inspected and issued to the CDF. Some these grenades were giving to the IRA witch some got captured by the British. Is there a modern bolt-action rifle that can fire as fast as the Lee Enfield (12-15 rounds a minute)?
