Description
Another horrible blurry mess - it's because I painted it on a very small canvas in photoshop from start o finish, I usually scan in traditional linework, so I'm not happy with this. Plus they both look far too young in my opinion.They...are the vampire king and queen from Stuart Hill's novels the Icemark Chronicles, and easily my favorite characters after Oskan.
I wasn't sure whether to have them completely matching...for some reason, I think they'd do that, but I changed the hue of her dress a teensy bit, because it was weirding me out. He looks like a pimp in that shirt. A 70s pimp.
I've developmed a liking for neon green backlighting. Just bear with me. Maybe I'll change colours some day. O_O
Characters are (c) Stuart Hill

Sorry for the late reply. I haven't seen that. I shall find that scene! I've now concluded wine is sacred in the Icemark. Things don't go too badly as long as your wine isn't taken!XD Have you read Prince of the Icemark?

Love this! And I completely agree, these vampires are classy, cool and just plain awesome. They completely put sparkly Edward to shame, along with all the Twilight 'vampires'. I loved how they were a bit melodramatic. I guess I would be too if I'd lived that long. And I love how they actually felt like real, 3d characters, instead of flat, uninteresting twilight vampires.
Thanks for the fanart, love it!

Love this - it's awesome and definately captures just how the Icemark vampires are!
Love the Icemark vampires - the swords they carry are epic!<3 They come second (for me) to the 'Department 19' vampires - which are totally horrible. They're arrogant and treat humans like scum. If you're looking for nasty vamps and vampire slayers read D19! Basically it's set in the world of 'Dracula'.

I definitely will Vampires are so much fun if they're done properly, I always prefer them as secondary characters though. Arrogant snarky characters are always fun to read XD

Yes, proper vampires are awesome to read about, it's funny as I've only read one series where the main character is a vampire... D19 is by Will Hill and I would recommend reading 'Dracula' to get the references to it that pop up in D19.
XD Yes they are, unless they act immaturely, which seems to be common trait amongst them. Only Drake and Vega from 'Wereworld' by Curtis Jobling are snarky and act maturely. Alexandru and his brothers (the Rusmanovs) are three vamps in D19 and they are totally proper vampires.
If you want to read another book about horrible/proper vampires you could give the book I'm writing a go? However, all the characters are vampires. There are no veggies in my book (that is so wrong - vamps drink human blood!) and neither could you ally with them - they'd tear Oskan's throat out if he threatened them like he did in the Icemark. In fact, they wouldn't even listen to his reasons. The Vampire King in your picture reminded me of the main character in my book!XD He's also a vampire king, except he's the vampire King of England.

I prefer it when the story doesn't focus on them - they deserve a bit of mystery rather than a spotlight Otherwise they seem to become nothing more than whiny depressing things XD
I always think of Mogget from "Sabriel" when I think of the word snark. He's ancient so he can't be immature XD You're right, it's better when they act maturely at the same time, then at least you can respect them.
I like the ideas you're coming up with It's about time someone had the courage to create characters who had real "dark side", not just a tendency to angst now and then XD I had a story about a vampire char of mine (he also drinks human blood but out of a teacup because he thinks he can still be normal) but I'm going more towards graphic novel. We could do a sort of critique trade XD I'll be sure to stop by and have a nosy at what you're up to (you'll have to bear with me, I have a lot of exams first!)

XD That is true though I can think of quite a few that wouldn't whine. Sidorio from 'Vampirates' for a start would go on about how he's the greatest vampire. And Jez, also from 'Vampirates' is about as conflicted between picking sides as you can get! I love Jez, can't figure why every hates him... But, yes, it is irritating when you here vamp characters moaning about being monsters. OK, Caelen from 'Skulduggery Pleasant' I can sympathesise with as the vampire in him isn't him. But the rest - urrgh, embrace being vampires!
I love Mogget! All must bow before fluffy white cats!XD He was so funny. I can wait for the next Sabriel book due out next year!
Thanks! Muhahaha, my vampys are totally dark - they have a game called Blood Balance which is like goose grabbing, only it's with live humans. And the book is partly told from the villian's point of view. The annoying this is I'm developing a minor crush on the main char - he would rip me apart, because I'm human!
XD Teacup - epic! Why am I thinking of Ceil all of a sudden?!
XD Sure! I have a tonne of A-Level exams coming up as well. I'll send you the first chapter now and you can see what you think.

Oh, I met the father of the guy who wrote Vampirates (I think) while I was working in Waterstones, and he was so lovely. I promised I would read that book, so I definitely will! You're right, they sould just embrace being a vampire, it's fun!
I didn't know there was another book due out. I shall have to keep my peepers open for that. I really miss his writing, he's the author who inspired me to start writing
That such a good idea, vampires should have their own Olympics that is completely blood-orientated XD Yours would go home with the gold, I'd think.
Good luck in your exams! Believe me, I know how stressful those things are! I've left you a note re-the book

Yes, go buy it now!XD They should - otherwise they're so boring and depressed all the time.
His writing is pretty awesome. 'Redrought' should have been out last year, so I don't when it'll get published. Also, he is supposed to be writing another book about Arthur and Merlin, but its publish date has yet to be released.
Thanks! XD They should as well! Archery could be that the humans are the targets and they have to run around! Why, yes they would!
Thankies! I'm taking Physics, Biology and Chemistry - kills. Thanks, I shall take a look in a mo!

I'm sure I read a short story of his about Merlin, it stuck in my head in a vague sort of detail-less way. I know it exists, that's about it.
Wow, three sciences, you're braver than me! But I had some awesome biology notes covered in Osmosis Jones doodles. Ah, good times.

Ah, OK. The book about Arthur/Merlin is where they're the villains. I really want to read it!
Yes, everyone says I'm brave for doing that, as well as mad. In Year 12 I was doing four - I did Geology AS. Unfortunately my Sixth Form didn't do Geology to A2 so I had to keep Physics. I'm really good at Geology and have chosen to do a degree in it. It's one of the few subject areas at the moment where there aren't enough people doing it, so you pretty much will get employed and the pay is good! Some people are on over £100,000 per year days after graduating - in Australia of all places!
Osmosis Jones?XD Who was/is he?

That sounds pretty cool You'll probably get to visit far flung lands and stuff through uni, all the cool stuff you see on the post-boards XD Do you want to teach Geology or work in the field?
Osmosi Jones was an animated film, then a cartoon series about a white blood cell who is a detective/police officer in the body. It sounds geeky, but the film at least as actally pretty witty and wel animated The best part is he's voiced by Chris Rock XD

Crabbiey In reply to BlackMage339 [2012-05-12 15:54:41 +0000 UTC]
Geology is a very cool subject, shame it isn't taught with the other three sciences. XD That's the awesome thing about Geology - high-paid and lots of exotic places (you simply can't work in a lab for it half the time)! At uni there a lot of trips for Geology - I think it has some of the most for any course!XD Some trips are to America, some go to Italy and Spain. I want to go to Iceland, for some reason I really want to go there... If possible, whilst at uni, I'm going to see if I can do research in New Zealand or somewhere. I want to work in the field, not sure which area I'll be working in. I'd like to go into Palaetonology if possible, but that may have to be a hobby as I'm more likely to get snatched up by an oil or mining company. There's no way I'd want to teach - I'd fail plus my mum's a teacher and the workload she has is ridiculous. Of course, if I become an author I'll be travelling to all sorts of places for research considering the book ideas I have!XD
What's annoying is that everyone thinks Geology is just 'a load of old rocks'. It so isn't!
XD No idea who that is but it sounds awesome - I must watch it!

BlackMage339 In reply to Crabbiey [2012-05-12 22:57:12 +0000 UTC]
I'm pretty sure you'll get o Iceland, it's probably got the most geology, geography, land features of the entire world XD And a field trip wouldn't be a field trip without geysers and glaciers.
Ah, maybe you'll get some chances to get involved in paleontology as a hobby, I doubt it would be ongoing all the time and at least you'd get some money from oil companies to keep visiting these exotic places!
I love travelling for that reason, I'm a nightmare on holiday, I'm usually the one saying "Let's climb this massively huge mountain so I can experience first hand altitude sickness for my novel!"
I really wish I'd got to do Geology. It sounds so much better than Geography, which just turned out to be a lot of ordinance survey maps (?)

XD It probably has and yes - geysers make everything better!
Yup! I'll probably just devote spare time to studying fossils...
XD I've climbed a few mountains but have yet to experience altitude sickness! Clearly they weren't high enough!XD
Yes, it's a shame it's not so widely taught... It should be a GCSE - then you'd have an extra science! It's just basically Physical Geography with fossils and some extra science thrown in. Ah, Geography... I hated the exams. Some of friends are doing A-level Geography and they hate the people bit of it.

I've never read this series, so I don't exactly know who these two are... but they still look badass XD
I love the shading, and the deep blue-purple colours mixed with the green lighting really give an eery presence to the figures, and they're eery enough just with their hostile expressions! XD They're not doing anything overtly threatening, but you still feel kind of threatened by them, which is definitely how vampires should be. I don't like Twilight vampire types in all their beautiful sparkling perfectness... they're more like prancing elves then blood-drinking, immortal human-hunting predators XDDD
But these two look very respectably vampire.
I have just the one little critique, if you're willing to hear them. I think the lineart is really nice, but it feels like it smothers the lighting a bit to me. Perhaps try thinning out the lineart a bit (by using a smaller brush or pen? ) or perhaps having the lighting layer (like the green bits) over the lineart layer?
