Description
I wanted to do this meme to show all the characters that I like so much and also feel sympathetic for because of all the troubles, loss, abuse, etc. they endured, and villains who became who they are because of certain events that lead them to their start of darkness. When you see these characters, you can sympathize with them and all the struggles they face and their sad fates in the end, sometimes even being denied a happy ending or any redemption that they want to have. So here, I have a bunch of characters I like, and my reasons for why I sympathize with them.P.S. There will be spoilers, just as a heads-up in case you never watched these movies or shows.
*******************************
*Because He's One Of The Best: Balto (Balto)
Balto is a kind, compassionate, honest, humble, and caring dog character, but the humans of Nome, Alaska judge him badly for being half wolf and reject him out of fear, and the dogs of the town, mainly Steele and his teammates, ridicule and insult him for being the offspring of two different species, and yet, he still struggles to fit in with everyone but feels ashamed of his heritage, but he's accepted by very few people, mainly his adoptive father Boris and his polar bear friends Muk and Luk, and his crush Jenna and her owner Rosy. Throughout the movie, it makes me feel sympathy for him for all the crap he goes through, and he does get better and gets the acceptance he deserves after getting the medicine to Nome on time to save the sick children. But still, I feel bad for him after all the bullying and prejudice he had to endure throughout the whole movie.
*Because She Suffers From Loss: Violet Evergarden (Violet Evergarden)
Before becoming an Auto Memories Doll for the C.H. Postal Service, Violet was a soldier who everyone in the army saw as nothing but a tool of war and a killing machine because of her uncanny ability to attack and kill flawlessly- everyone except her master, Major Gilbert Bougainvillea. After she was found all alone on an island as a child by Captain Dietfreid Bougainvillea and his crew, she was given to his younger brother Gilbert as a 'gift' for his promotion to Major, and unlike his older brother who saw her as nothing but an emotionless monster after she slaughtered his entire squad, he took Violet under his wing and treated her as a person and with love and compassion, taught her how to read, write and speak, and even giving her an emerald brooch, which Violet described as the same color as Gilbert's eyes and reminded her how beautiful they were, as a gift after their bond grew stronger over time. But their bond came to an end when they were fighting in the final battle of the war, and Gilbert was critically injured while Violet lost both of her arms, and they were then separated in an explosion just after he tells Violet "I love you...". After the war and during her recovering and her time as an Auto Memories Doll, she was never told about Gilbert's death until she found out from his relatives who adopted her, the Evergardens, that he was dead. Even though she gets better later on and comes to terms with Gilbert's death, it just breaks my heart seeing how sad and heartbroken she was after she lost someone so close to her and the only one who saw her as a human being instead of a weapon of war.
*Because He's Abused: Angel Dust (Hazbin Hotel)
In the pilot, Angel Dust is the most popular porn star in Hell who agreed with Charlie and Vaggie's experimental hotel to rehabilitate sinners but kept getting in trouble by getting involved with a turf war with his friend Cherri Bomb during Charlie's public interview on the news. But in the music video "Addict", we see a different side to him that shows his fragile and traumatized side, and it turns out that he's been abused by his Overlord pimp, Valentino, physically, psychologically, and even sexually, making him suffer PTSD especially when Valentino would rape him on a daily basis before arriving at the hotel. Since he has to maintain his reputation and credibility as Hell's most popular porn star, he doesn't let anyone, especially Charlie and Vaggie, know of his problems, and his only friends are his pet pig Fat Nuggets and Cherri Bomb, who is the only one who knows what's really going on in his life with Valentino. I truly sympathize with Angel after watching "Addict" after what he went through and the fact he only agreed with being part of the Happy/Hazbin Hotel was just so he could get away from the pimp who abused and used him, and even hoped that he might truly want redemption than need it.
*Because She's Disabled: Shoko Nishimiya (A Silent Voice)
In the movie, Shoko was born deaf and had trouble fitting in with her peers. When she gets transferred to Shoya's elementary school, instead of helping her cope with her disability, Shoya and the other students tormented and teased her to the point of calling her a freak and many hurtful names, stealing and breaking her hearing aids which costed a lot of money for her mother, and Shoya got all the blame for the bullying even before she transferred to a different school. Because of all of this and Shoya being hated for being a former bully, Shoko starts hating herself for being deaf and being the cause of everyone's problems, even to the point of trying to commit suicide. Even after Shoya feels remorse for what he did when they become teenagers and he wants to make amends with her for how he treated her, Shoko initially felt afraid that he was still going to hurt her until he proved that he wanted to apologize for what he did. As someone who was bullied for being autistic and being ashamed of being the only member of my family with autism, it actually makes me relate to Shoko and feel sympathy for her since she was bullied for having a disability she never asked to be born with and hates herself because of it. She still gets better in the end thanks to Shoya, but it makes me feel sad for all the bullying she went through as a child.
*Because He Suffers From Guilt: Stitchpunk 9 (Shane Acker's 9)
In the movie, 9 awoke several years after the Scientist died after giving him the last of his soul and humanity was eradicated by the Fabrication Machine. When he finally awakens, he wants to know the truth about how and why he and the other Stitchpunks awoke in a world that ended and was left by the humans in destruction, he lets his curiosity get the better of him when he places the Talisman inside the dormant Fabrication Machine, which was what the Cat Beast was about to do before 7 killed it, and he accidentally gets 2 killed, right after he and 5 rescued him. After learning the origins of the Fabrication Machine, 9 feels even more guilty not only about getting 2 killed, but also reawakening the very thing that destroyed humanity, and he did whatever it took to stop the Fabrication Machine once and for all, but also he also caused the deaths of most of his kind, including 5. When he and the remaining Stitchpunks face off against the Machine one last time, he tries to sacrifice himself to let it take his soul while 7 and the others retrieve the Talisman from it, admitting that he was the one who caused the deaths of everyone and the Machine's reawakening in the first place. After retrieving the Talisman and saving the dead Stitchpunks' souls, including 1's who sacrificed himself instead, and destroying the Fabrication Machine, 9's guilt was a little bit relieved after seeing his friends one last time before they ascended to the Heavens. But I have a feeling that even after freeing the souls of his friends, 9 still felt guilty of feeling responsible for the deaths of half his kind, including his first friend 2 and his best friend 5.
*Because Of Subtext: Spinel (Steven Universe: The Movie)
Out of all the SU characters affected by Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz, Spinel is the one I not only like very much, but also sympathize with her the most. Before Pink Diamond got her colony on Earth, Spinel was Pink's old playmate and they spent hours playing together in the garden and Spinel would entertain her to cheer her up whenever she felt sad. One day, after Pink finally got the colony she desperately wanted, instead of taking her to Earth with her and Pearl, Pink wanted nothing to do with Spinel anymore after growing tired of her, and she played a dirty trick on the Gem by making her think they were playing one last game where she would stand still in her spot for as long as she can until she came back, but Pink never came back for her and Spinel was left in the Garden for 6000 years still waiting for Pink's return, not even knowing that she had become Rose Quartz and faked her shattering or gave up her physical form to have Steven. When she finally learns the truth after thousands of years of being alone in the Garden from Steven's message to the other Gem colonies all over the galaxy, and she felt so heartbroken that her so-called friend never cared about her or loved her, and since she was no longer around, Spinel didn't know how to express how heartbroken she felt and how angry she was at Pink for abandoning her, and even believed herself to be incapable of being loved by anyone. Although Steven helps her start over again after being taken in by Blue, Yellow, and White Diamond, her backstory just makes us understand the toxicity of fake friends and how abandoning them affects that person, and she was no exception after what Pink did to her.
*Because He Can't Catch A Break: Flik (Disney/Pixar's A Bug's Life)
Flik is an inventor who has very creative ideas on how to improve the way the ants of his colony live, but everyone thinks his ideas are nothing but trouble and would rather stick with their old ways than change some of their ways of life, and his occasional screw-ups often make him an outcast among his fellow ants. Even though that doesn't stop him from coming up with ideas to make a difference in his colony and improve their lives, he still feels ostracized and rejected by everyone. This hits him even harder when the "warrior" bugs he promised to find the colony to defend themselves from Hopper (although this was just a wild goose chase that Princess Atta sent him on to keep him out of everyone's hair ... ) turn out to be recently fired circus performers who also mistook him for a talent agent and his deception is found out right after his makeshift bird to scare away Hopper and his gang was completed, and he is banished by his own colony after they decide to abandon his plan which would have worked, and he falls into despair and shame after believing himself to be a total failure who always causes nothing but problems that make things worse for everyone. Luckily, he regains his faith in himself after a little pep talk from Dot and the circus bugs after Hopper and the grasshoppers take over the colony and Hopper plots to murder the Queen. But still, all that crap he went through and all his screw-ups make me feel bad for him for all the times he tried to make things better for his colony only to make a mess of things.
*Because He's Misunderstood: Trouble Shoes (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic)
At first, Trouble Shoes was believed to be a dangerous outlaw of Appleoosa who would sabotage and try and hurt other ponies during rodeos, causing those who run them to cancel them. But it turns out, Trouble Shoes is a nice guy who is just a clumsy stallion who just wanted to be a part of the rodeo since he was just a foal, but he thought his cutie mark, an upside down horseshoe, was just the curse of bad luck, and after his dreams seemed crushed, he still watched the rodeo for several years until he became an adult but ended up causing disasters because of his clumsiness, causing people to think he was dangerous and trying to deliberately ruin rodeos. Luckily, the CMCs help him understand the meaning behind his cutie mark and help him be part of the rodeo by using his clumsiness as part of a rodeo clown act, which he seems to enjoy very much and every-pony was amused by his antics. While he does get a happy ending and finds his true place thanks to the CMCs, I feel bad for him for being accused of bad things all because of his clumsiness and belief in bad luck all around him wherever he goes.
*Because He's Innocent: Roger Rabbit (Disney's Who Framed Roger Rabbit)
First Roger finds out his wife Jessica is having an affair with Marvin Acme, not knowing that she was blackmailed by his boss R.K. Maroon to do it by threatening to have Roger fired, then he's framed for the murder of Marvin Acme, and finally he's almost killed by Judge Doom with his Dip when he's finally caught by him and his weasel henchmen, the Toon Patrol. After all the things that happened to him, how can you not feel sorry for him for what he went through. Luckily, he and his wife reconciled after they and Eddie Valiant learned the truth of Doom's plot and cleared Roger's name when it turns out Doom was the one who murdered Acme and Maroon, and also the Toon in disguise who murdered Eddie's brother Teddy in cold blood a long time ago. But still, I always feel sad for him what he goes through with being framed for something he would never do and almost get killed by an evil Toon disguised as a human.
*Because He's Desperate: Victor Fries/Mr. Freeze (Batman)
Many villains have a tragic backstory and a reason for committing their evil deeds, and this DC Comics villain is no exception. Before coming the villain he is today, Victor Fries fell in love with a woman named Nora and they were soon happily married, but tragedy struck when Nora was diagnosed with MacGregor Syndrome, a rare and terminal disease in which there was no known cure, and rather than let his beloved wife die, he cryogenically froze her until he could find the cure for her condition. He became Mr. Freeze after an accident involving chemicals caused the cells in his body to be altered and make him unable to survive warm temperatures, and he has to wear a special suit that keeps him at sub-zero temperatures or else he'll die. Despite this, he's still desperate to make sure his wife gets the cure she needs to save her, committing robberies and heists in order to to fund his research to find the cure. With a tragic backstory and his reasons for being a supervillain, it's hard not to feel sympathy for a man who wants to save his terminally ill wife.
*Because She Tries But Often Fails: Homura Akemi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
When we first see her, there was something enigmatic about her and and the way she acted cold and cynical towards the other Magical Girls, being a Magical Girl herself, but mostly why she was so obsessed with preventing Madoka from making a deal with Kyubey to become a Magical Girl, and we get our answer when her backstory is revealed. Before meeting Madoka, she was a sickly girl who spent most of her life in the hospital and Madoka instantly befriended her and learned about being a Magical Girl, and she makes a deal with Kyubey to become a Magical Girl by wishing to go back in time and be with Madoka again. She gains her wish, but Madoka doesn't remember their times together in every timeline she's in, and Homura learns the dark truth about Magical Girls and that they become the Witches they fight and kill after their Soul Gems become too corrupted if not purified by Grief Seeds. After learning the truth, Homura restarts the same day she first meets Madoka to prevent her from dying or becoming a Magical Girl and lose her beloved friend from becoming a Witch. Overtime, she is unsuccessful at saving her in every timeline, and she becomes cold and distant from all her failures at saving Madoka. In the end, after she learns the truth about Magical Girls and what Kyubey really is doing with the girls he makes a contract with, Madoka makes the ultimate sacrifice by wishing to have the power to prevent all Magical Girls, past, present, and future, from ever becoming Witches, thus rewriting history and the rules of the universe and becoming a goddess-like entity that nobody except Homura and Madoka's infant brother will ever remember existed. While Madoka makes the ultimate sacrifice to prevent all Magical Girls from suffering a terrible fate, Homura still feels like she failed in saving her first friend in spite of her devotion and determination to saving her.
*Because I've Been In Her Place: Fluttershy (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic)
Fluttershy was one of my favorite characters throughout the show for many reasons; being a sweetheart and a good friend to all her friends, caring about animals, and knowing when to stand up for herself or her friends when needed. But another reason I find her to be a favorite of mine is that I can relate to her because she was bullied as a filly for being a weak flier and being scared and shy, since I was bullied as a child for being autistic and people would laugh at my quirks and pick on me using certain sounds I didn't like. Even today, I always had fears of being ridiculed for my interests and still have a fear of being picked on again like I was when I was younger, just like Fluttershy still has her fears of being ridiculed for being laughed at in "Hurricane Fluttershy" for her flying performance, which I feel sympathy for her after the torment she endured since she was young and she still fears would remain with her.
*Because His Dreams Were Crushed: Quasimodo (Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame)
Throughout his whole life, Quasimodo believed himself to be a monster due to his appearance, which Frollo has made him believe his whole life, and that everyone in the outside world would only shun and ridicule him, but he still wishes to go into the world outside of the Notre Dame cathedral to be part of Paris' people. He finally has the confidence and courage to sneak into the Festival of Fools and he gets crowned the King of Fools for having the 'ugliest face in Paris', but all that happiness is destroyed when one of Frollo's guards throws a tomato at him and soon the rest of the crowd joins in the torment and torture, going too far by tying him down on a wheel and throw food at him, not even caring how he was feeling. Even after he was saved by Esmeralda who also stands up for him against Frollo and calls out on him for how he treated both Quasi and her people, the Gypsies, the hunchback was traumatized after what happened to him and felt upset that his wish to see outside of Notre Dame and be with the Parisians was crushed after being abused by the public. After what Quasi just went through, it's impossible for me not to feel sympathy for him.
*Because Of Her Cruel Fate: Nina Tucker (Fullmetal Alchemist)
She lost her mother when she was a toddler after her father Shou Tucker (the most despicable character in the history of anime! ) turned her into a chimera and she committed suicide by starving herself to death, and Tucker lied to her and everyone else that her mother left him. If that's not the saddest part, she ended up becoming a chimera herself by her father after splicing her and Alexander, her beloved pet dog, together. While Tucker got what he deserved after Edward beat the crap out of him and Scar murdered him, Nina was euthanized by Scar to be put out of the misery and pain of being a chimera, and the fact that she would never be turned back into a human anyway. Her tragic fate that she shared with her mother is what made her death, along with Maes Hughes being murdered by Envy, one of the saddest moments in the anime.
*Because Nobody Helped Her: Carrie White (Carrie; all versions)
The poor girl was bullied and tormented for several years at her high school by her own peers day in and day out, especially by the bitch Chris Hargenson, or should I say "Whoregenson", who bullies her in cruel ways, and nobody at school helps her, not even the teachers (except for the gym teacher Miss Desjardin) or the principal who always gets her name wrong no matter how many times he's being corrected. If that's not enough, she's being abused and neglected by her own mother Margaret, who is just a religious freak who claims herself to be a woman of god, but she's just a complete psycho who thinks every little thing in the world is nothing but a sin, and nobody in the neighborhood even lifted a finger to save Carrie from her by calling child services or the police. She even locks Carrie in the "pray closet" and forces her to pray for ridiculous reasons, especially when Carrie got her first period during gym class in the shower which she was viciously harassed and tormented for and the witch she's forced to call 'mama' claims that menstruation is a sign of lustful thoughts. Even though Carrie finally gets a chance of happiness at the prom when Sue Snell realized the error of her ways and wanted to make things right for her by having her boyfriend Tommy Ross take her to the prom instead of herself, Chris has the gall to ruin everything for her by dumping a bucket of pig's blood on her and have her humiliated even more, but this finally pushes Carrie to her breaking point and she kills many of the students and faculty at the prom and kills Chris and her boyfriend Billy Nolan by crashing their car. The worst part of her end is that Margaret tries to kill her after stabbing her in the back (literally), and Carrie kills her before causing the house to collapse to the ground, also killing Carrie. The fact that nobody even helped her or even saved her from that horrible life she endured just makes me feel sad for her that she never got her happy ending or a better life and family, and I just want to hug her in comfort and get back at those who mistreated her.
*Because Nobody Forgives Him: Shoya Ishida (A Silent Voice)
As a child in elementary school, he bullied Shoko for being deaf, even taking her very expensive hearing aids and destroying them and calling her names, and even crossed the line when he yanked her hearing aids out of her ears resulting in one of her ears getting damaged. When word gets around about his bullying, he gets blamed by everyone including those who joined him in the bullying who refused to accept the blame, and he ended up becoming bullied up to high school. Since then, he's felt remorse for his actions after distancing himself from everyone and becoming a loner. He reunites with Shoko years later when they're teenagers after he attempts suicide when he has enough of the bullying but doesn't go through with it at the last minute, and he wants to make amends for what he did to her, even learning sign language to help understand her better. Even though Shoko forgives him after meeting with each other the first few times and befriends her younger sister Yuzuru, everyone still thinks that Shoya doesn't deserve to be forgiven for what he did to Shoko and is still blamed and hated by everyone, especially Shoko's mother who still has a grudge against him for what he did to her daughter. While he eventually does earn everyone's forgiveness in the end after saving Shoko from killing herself and ended up in a coma, it still makes me sympathize with him since although he used to be a bully, he still realized the error of his ways and wanted to make up for what he did despite no one forgiving him at first.
*Because She Has No One To Love: Angel (Disney's Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp's Adventure)
After Angel and Scamp first met when he runs away from home and she was with a pack of strays called the Junkyard Dogs, Angel reveals that she was originally owned by five different families, but although she was happy being adopted, she was given up by each of them when they either moved away, had a new baby, had a dog allergy, etc. She's even forced to keep her past life as a house pet and her desire to be loved and wanted by a family a secret from Buster, the leader of the Junkyard Dogs, since although the Junkyard Dogs weren't a family to her, they're the closest thing she'd have to one so she could be accepted. Luckily, thanks to Scamp and his family, she ends up getting adopted into their family and is welcomed by their human owners with open arms. But it still makes me feel sorry for her, since being part of five different families and rejected or given up by all of them is almost similar to a child in foster care not getting a permanent family.
*Because Of Her Performance: Elsa (Disney's Frozen)
Throughout Elsa's life, she thought the powers she had would make her hurt those she loved after an accident when she hit her little sister Anna in the head with a small blast of magic, and after being told that fear would be her enemy if not under control (although Grand Pabbie wasn't specific on whose fear would be her enemy :bademoticon:, and she and her parents assumed it would be people's fear of her), she was isolated from the outside world by her parents and they taught her how to suppress her emotions that are actually connected to her powers, which only made her fears worse and and she also thought that she could still hurt anyone if they even touched her, and she was branded as a monster by the Duke of Weselton after her out-of-control powers were accidentally revealed during her coronation as queen of Arendelle, and after she accidentally freezes Anna's heart, she feels even more afraid of herself after what she did. Performance wise, I think Idina Menzel delivers Elsa's sadness and desperation so well that it makes me want to comfort Elsa and tell her that everything was going to be okay, and that it's okay to be afraid but not let our fears get the better of us, especially since we have those who love and care about us very much.
*Because Of Those Who Hate Him: Wreck-It Ralph (Disney's Wreck-It Ralph)
An in-universe example of this. In his video game "Fix-It Felix Jr.", Ralph is the "bad guy" of the game, but off duty, he's a sweet and kind but very lonely guy who is shunned and hated by his fellow game members, the Nicelanders (ironically, they're more mean than nice ) just because he's the game's bad guy. They even have the nerve not to invite him to their party celebrating the 30th anniversary of their game, even though he's an important part of it. The only people who accept him are other bad guys from their respective games, and they try to help him accept himself for who he is despite his role in the game, but he has trouble accepting this because of how he was being mistreated and unloved and this is what pressures him into trying to be a "good guy" that nearly gets his own game unplugged. Although he gets better in the end, it makes me feel bad that someone so misunderstood was treated poorly by his fellow game characters and other people just because of what he is instead of accept him for who he is.
*Because Of The Setting's Impact: Stitchpunk 5 (Shane Acker's 9)
I think of all the Stitchpunks affected by the War of the Machines, 5 was the one who was affected the most. During the war long before 9 finally awoke, 5 was accidentally separated from the others by an explosion and witnessed some humans being killed by the Walkers before getting knocked over by toxic gas bombs that resulted in him losing his eye, and he and 2 almost get crushed by a Walker before returning to their small group. During his time at the cathedral under 1's iron-fisted protection, he becomes even more intimidated by 1's overprotection and rules and too afraid to think for himself until 9 comes along and helps him gain his confidence and courage when 2, who 5 is very close to and they treat each other more as father and son than friends, is captured by the Cat Beast. Unfortunately, he witnesses 2 getting killed by the Fabrication Machine because of 9, who immediately regrets what he did after placing the Talisman inside it, and he has to face against more evil machines until he and the other Stitchpunks manage to blow up the Factory. Sadly, their victory is short-lived when it turns out the Fabrication Machine survived the explosion and kills him in front of the rest of the Stitchpunks, especially 9, who he developed a strong brother-like bond with him throughout the movie, and when he and the other deceased Stitchpunks leave for the Heavens in soul form, he's forced to leave his living friends behind. It's just sad that this guy spent most of his life afraid and when he finally gets the courage to face his fears, he ends up dying near the end and losing his dearest friends.
*Because Of His Society's Impact: Legoshi (Beastars)
In the anime, carnivores and herbivores live together in a big community, but carnivores are still feared and prejudiced by herbivores, and Legoshi is no exception. Because of how carnivores are viewed by a society of many herbivores, Legoshi feels ashamed of being born a wolf but it's later revealed in the manga that he's not a pure-blooded wolf, but he's also part Komodo Dragon; his paternal grandfather was a Komodo while his grandmother was a wolf, and his mother Leano took her own life after her Komodo heritage was revealing more of itself and hybrids were seen as freaks in their society, and even before her suicide, Legoshi always kept to himself and always had a lot of self-loathing of himself. Most of the time, he tries to distance himself from herbivores while trying to keep his predator instincts under control, especially when he feels confused about whether his feelings for Haru the dwarf rabbit are love or just a desire to devour her. His situation reminds me of the problems Amethyst from Steven Universe and Shrek have, having a lot of self-loathing for being what he is and being judged by people before they get to know him.
*Because She Can't Handle It All: Lapis Lazuli (Steven Universe)
During the Rebellion, long before she met Steven and became a Crystal Gem, Lapis was sent to Earth for a diplomatic mission but ended up getting caught in the middle of a battle, and she got her physical form destroyed by a Gem soldier, and when the Homeworld Gems found her in her gem state, they thought she was a rebel Gem and placed her in a magic mirror to force her to reveal the Crystal Gem's whereabouts, but she didn't know and remained a prisoner, even being used by the Crystal Gems when they thought she was one of their enemies. Thousands of years later, after being freed by Steven from the mirror and he healed her cracked gem, Jasper forced her to fuse with her into Malachite, but she took full control over Malachite and imprisoned herself and Jasper under the sea, but the strain of being in control of their toxic Fusion became too much for her and although she was saved by the Crystal Gems after unfusing with Jasper, she felt traumatized by the events of both the Rebellion and the Fusion, and it took a long time for her to get over it with a little help from Steven and Peridot. She managed to find peace for a little while until learning that Homeworld was invading Earth once again, and she was afraid of reliving that trauma of being enslaved by her own people and the Diamonds once again. Although she gains her courage to return to Earth and help defeat the Diamonds once and for all, I just can't imagine all the suffering she felt all those years before and after she met Steven.
*Because Her Struggles Feel Real: Molly Hale (Pokémon 3: The Movie/Spell of the Unown)
This little girl may have been the antagonist of the third movie, but this is all because of the loneliness and sadness she felt throughout the film from her mother's disappearance to her father's after he becomes trapped in the Unown dimension, and the Unown she summons help her try to make her dreams of how she wants to see life a reality and even summon an Entei as a replacement for her father from the stories of legends and fairytales he would read to her. Her struggles to come to terms with reality and understanding that not everything you dream of can come true and that these desires to have what she wants as her reality are affecting others. Her struggles to no longer feel lonely and not accept reality for what it is and try to make it how she wants it makes me feel for this poor girl after how much loneliness and sadness she endured.
*BECAUSE I CAN!: Octavia (Helluva Boss)
At first I knew Octavia was a character I would love, but I didn't think she was one I felt sympathy for. When Stolas starts having an affair with Blitzo and and he and his wife Stella start arguing a lot, Octavia starts becoming more distant from her father and feels like their family is falling apart because of her father's actions. She later reveals that because she loves her father so much ever since she was little, she fears that he'd leave her in favor of Blitzo and run off with him somewhere far away where she'd never see him again; in other words, her greatest fear was losing her father, who she loves very much. After revealing how she truly feels about her family's situation to Stolas in the climax, it makes quite a lot of people, including me, relate to her if they have fears of abandonment and are so close to one of their parents that they're afraid of losing them in some way. Luckily, Stolas admits that despite his unhappy political marriage to Stella and his affair with Blitzo, there was no way he would ever abandon his beloved daughter. But still, it makes me feel sad for her to think that her father would favor someone else over her and she would possibly lose him forever.
