I ALMOST NOPED OUT WITH VIRMIRE. But I nutted up and chose Ashley. I know the fandom loves Kaiden, and that's fine, I've got nothing against the guy he seemed super sweet, if a little wooden. But I feel like Ash gets so much shit and I honestly don't really know why. I like the skipper nickname.
As for 2 I'm kinda scared that I'm not gonna like it as much as 1. I don't even care about the romances being too hetero, I just don't like the new controls, but it's more realistic I guess. You know having to reload your weapon and shit. I dunno kinda reminds me of KH2 what with all the button mashing, but like I said I just started.
Also OMG ARIA. Y U NO ROMANCEABLE?!?! SHE SO RUTHLESS AND WONDERFUL.
Oh and can you, in a nice way, explain what the deal with Liara is? Like, I saw a few videos of her and she seems different. Obviously she'd change, having spent 2 years in mourning or whatever, but something is off. And why do the fans accuse her of being fanservice? If you think about it, aren't there other characters that are like that?

You honestly get used to the controls. Plus it's better to adjust since if you play 3 they're closer to 2 than the first game. They made it because they gave you a shit more options for attacks, like if you make Shepard a biotic and shit. Attack chains and such. I personally liek 2 better because of interactions.
Also....NO MORE FUCKING MAKO TRUCK. I mean i like that clunker...but those missions were horrible hgaha XD In two, provided you have the dlc for buying the full game, you get a jumping hover jet XD

Well, basically Liara is the ...poster girl for mass effect. More so than Shepard (female shep anyway) basically, in game one, you have to romance her for that...unlocking reaper brain nonsense. Admit it, that scene was way more sexual than it needed to be.
In the first game she fell under cute awkward nerd girl with a crush on you.
Second game she does an unnecessary switch to hardcore stuck up bitch. While yes, their is an explanation for it, it's kind of weak in reality and doesnt add up. i personally think it was to attract people who like the more touch 'im in charge' girl.
Now out of all the romance scenes, hers is always the more rendered, long and well animated, showing waaaaaaay more nudity than required or...being tasteful.
Basically, they push Liara as the 'you can do it, you can finally be captain kirk and bone an off colored human-alien chick - you've done it!!'
She easily has the most offshoot material with side comics, promotional art, and an entire dlc focused on her which really adds nothing to the story other than to....explain her gap from game 1 to 2
Not to mention she was the only character to get a highly detailed character statue. Aka oversexualized anime girl statue. (it was pretty nice, i wont lie i almost bought it when it was on sale...almost)
Basically, Bioware intends her to be the canon shepard romance. She's asari, she's alien so it doesnt matter what gender shepard is, it's fair game for liara. She basically serves to show what mass effect is made of - alien, bad ass, biotic etc. im sure if mass effect was narrowed more, so you had less choice, you'd be forced to romance liara, no question.
It happens in games. despite the choice you cna make, the developers always have a canon that is supposed to be considered correct and usually there is a character that they push to be canon. Liara is said character. That's how I see it anyway.

No I can definitely see why you'd be miffed about that. I get the same way when a game based on the choice of the player overrides it, even if it's for the sake of the developers wanting a canon. I felt the same way when Male Hawke took priority over female Hawke in the campaign for DAII. (Their excuse was 'BUT PLAYERS WOULD BE CONFUSED!!!111) At least with Origins they had posters for all of them and they included women.
Liara is sexualized, I'll give you that. The 'joining' thing was very sexual, but she did say that's essentially how Asari have kids, still I get you. I guess because I sort of like her, I have blinders on to that stuff.
It did strike me as odd though that Liars was the one to retrieve Shep's remains and say the things she said (in the redemption comic) and it wasn't supposed to come off as romantic. And the fact that none of the other squad members (especially Garrus) gave a shit about helping her.

I'm not so miffed on the Liara thing really. I just...she doesn't do it for me, and while it's annoyign to have her waved about so much I really just ignore her.

As usual, i want to dislike liara in peace, i dont want all these hardcore fans spamming me about why i SHOULD like her. No, i shouldn't do anything except what the fuck I want, thank you good bye.
That's pretty much it, that's pretty much the reason about anything i get sorta miffed about, atleast when i seem miffed at the character.
And, i mean i get Bioware's motives. it's a lot easier to just pick a character who they can assume will be well liked for majority and focus on them. It would be too time consuming to make a retrieval side comic for every romance option. Not to mention, Garrus and Tali were's romancable in 1, so it makes sense they wouldn't go. it seems like a thing of they didnt realize they loved shepard until he/she was....dead.
So basically, i get why Bioware does what it does, I get why companies take certain options. Do i believe them as best? As a fan, no not at all, as a business investment, yes, very much great move. Like i get it, and try not to make a huge deal on certain things.
First a foremost, Bioware is a big company that needs to make money. It's not a small indie company that's backed on kickstarter that can take all the liberties it wants.

I get you. I get a lot of flack for liking certain characters, and disliking them. I can't tell you how many people on YOU KNOW WHERE. Messaged me about why I'm wrong/a hypocrite for not liking Anders and loving Isabela, and being 'meh' about Fenris.
Like, I understand your dedication to the character, you are more than free to like whomever/whatever you do, but stop trying to push them on me lmao. I get that these characters mean a great deal to people and sometimes they get personally offended on their behalf, but they are fictional. Besides I never go into the tags of that specific character to bash them or post negative comments, cause that always seemed dumb to me, so leave me alone lol.
I'm also sorry if I came off as being all OMG Y U NO LIKE SPACE WAIFUUUUUU I was honestly curious for your reasons of disliking her. Plus I like hearing all sorts of diff opinions so thanks for the patience with me thunder.
