'Recently visited the Titan Missile Museum. Their targets were "A", "B" and "C". The only information the launch crew had was one target was a ground burst. I don't imagine submarine crews had any more info.

No doubt about it. From what I could find in a few documentaries that show part of the launch and authentication procedure, the crews have no information regarding where the missiles are going.

I've always found this part of the Cold War and even now to be the most fascinating as these guys go to sea even in peace time wondering if they'll make it back due to war or accident. The CO may be the only one who really knows the targets but it has to weigh heavy on a person to know they're job is to deliver enough missiles to cripple a nation or even destroy a small one.

Indeed, it's both remarkable and terrifying.

I like the simple tubular design of the submarines, very good idea; it's like a Seawolf but more hydrodynamic.Β

Thanks!
It is, it's based on the US Navy's CONFORM (short for "concept formulation") submarine design, seen here:Β www.subsim.com/books/images/COβ¦

Thanks! It's based on an old 1960s concept US Navy submarine which had the periscopes and masts fold down into the hull, allowing it to move through the ocean more speedily and reduce pressure hull penetrations.

Maybe we'll be lucky and the missile is a dud.
