Description Seriously, I'm sick of everyone who uses hard-to-read chatspeak using the "We're not in school!" excuse.
And I'm not exaggerating, basically EVERYONE uses that excuse to justify typing like a total retard.

Hmm, I kind of agree with this and kind of don't.

From what I've experienced and what I've seen, it's school that MAKES people type like that. In school you're FORCED to me this, FORCED to do that, when you finally get out of school? It's the first proper taste of freedom for a lot of children/teenagers. So they just go wild.Β

Personally I was, and still am, homeschooled. Therefore I have had to freedom to write as I please, so I tend to use proper grammar when emailing/chatting to people online. Although when I'm talking to my best friends, sometimes we use horrible grammar for the fun of it, kind of in a humorous way.

Stop taking the internet so seriously; as long as you can understand what someone is saying, then why should it matter?

πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 1

Blayzes In reply to alienfingers [2010-12-20 22:33:37 +0000 UTC]

alienfingers In reply to Blayzes [2010-12-20 23:37:12 +0000 UTC]

I've just had a look at the comments and I'm actually shocked at how many people say they hate an aspect of themselves for not being able to spell some things correctly. It's a little bit worrying, to be honest, considering everything else that could happen to them; it seems a bit naive.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

alienfingers In reply to Blayzes [2010-12-20 23:35:28 +0000 UTC]

Surely, if you really are so high and mighty that you are a master of the English language, you should be able to comprehend that -

"hey guuys waths goin on lol"
&
"Hey, guys; what's going on? Haha."

- mean exactly the same thing; if you can't understand what the former sentence says, then perhaps you should be the one spending more time studying English.

I mean, I get annoyed when I see people calling themselves writers when they can't string a sentence together and spelling errors on signs and advertisements annoy me because, in a professional environment, it's expected of the person hired to put full effort into the product and it would show laziness in the person who got payed a lot of money to promote the comany at hand. People speaking on the Internet, however, are usually just trying to put a simple comment, offering not much more than a complement, critique or getting point across, however banal it may be.
To get worked up about such a mundaine issue just seems so incredibly petty that it makes me wonder what real issues people are trying to avoid in real life. Not implying that these people have crippling family issues or anything like that, just some kind of social anxiety that makes them feel that they need to be 'on top' in an environment where social interaction is limited only to communication through grammar and syntax, where the unadjustable rules of language can become their main support, other than relying on the genuine human interaction that comes with everyday conversations.

Blayzes In reply to alienfingers [2010-12-21 00:06:24 +0000 UTC]

Whoa, high and mighty? o_O Where did you get THAT from? Is it really so wrong to want just basic grammar skills? You know, the kind we learned in 1st grade? How does wanting to see people 13+ years of age showing at least a 1st grade education make me 'high and mighty'?

... do you really think this stamp is just for those who say misspelled, but still obvious to read posts? I'm talking about posts that lack so much punctuation and correct spelling that it looks like complete gibberish.

So, making a stamp = getting worked up?
Sorry, but no. xD Getting worked up would be lecturing the people this stamp is against, writing long paragraphs about how they're wrong because I don't agree with them. You know, like what you're doing here. :3 THAT would be getting worked up. Take a chill pill. My stamp is just an opinion on the internet, nothing to get all pissy over. xD

Ending a comment on a satically cheery emoticon tends to suggest trying to diffuse a situation someone entered so that they won't have to go furthur into the genuine reasons the topic began.

If you are looking down on someone for typing something wrong, is means you are attempting to be superior for the fact you can spell and they can't. I've seen some badly written stuff online (like, REALLY badly), but I don't think I've ever found something I couldn't understand.
I don't know, maybe it's just that you've had more traumatic literary experiences from people online or that my mind is less literal in reception, whereas yours could be set to always try to work around a set of pre-concieved rules. <<<πŸ‘: 1 ⏩: 3

I'm sure most of them can spell, they just choose not to for the sake of convenience, even if it inconveniences others by making their post look like it was typed in gibberish.

In other news, I have just been informed that you're a troll. Congratulations, you have successfully trolled me.

UUGH

Saying 'Thank you, sir' at the end of a post doesn't make any part of your argument smarter.

And this 'butchered language' stuff. If someone says 'your' instead of 'you're', does it REALLY hurt you? I mean, it's a bit annoying when somebody does it on coursework or on a poster, but if it really makes you so ming-numbingly angry, then you probably need some professional help. Of course, you could just be doing what I said earlier, just using it as a leverage to be 'right' about everything.

Oh wait, what's this - holy shit I think I'm going to end this sentence without a full stop - holy fuck, man here it goes; fucking rebel without a clause; literary maverick, aaAUAUAUGHHH

Is everyone alright? Oh my god, you could read that?
Wow, I can't believe I got through that, man. I could have actually died.

No, it means I'm done talking to you. Which is why I didn't read past the first sentence of your reply. Although I am flattered that you'd waste that kind of time on me.

Thank you again, sir. Have a lovely holiday.
