Description [Cursive - The Lament of Pretty Baby]

She rests her chin on her right hand, looking on the outside world, past her reflection, through the scratched window pane of the moving carriage.

Let them fix me.

Her lips mouth the lyrics & her heartbeat slows down to no more than a murmur.

Sweet silence.

A gentle figure stands at the side of her seat. She watches her with the sheet of glass. Long wispy ebony hair, porcelain skin, her cheeks sunken into her cheekbones & a simple white dress.

She sits herself next to her.

"Hi." she said. "I thought I would be travelling alone."

One sweet smile. Chapped lips crimson from being bitten too often.

"It wasn't easy finding this seat. But I'm glad I did. I hope you don't mind the company. Name's Happiness."

"Happiness?" she laughs. "You're kidding right?"

Those dry red lips. "I get that a lot." she looks straight at her, through her. Emerald green with flecks of red said "No."

She looks so... feels so...

Happiness plays with her train ticket.

Oh my God. Are those scars self-inflicted? Vertical slashes down her wrists. Oh sweet Lord. What happened?

A solitary tear leaves a trail of saline down her left cheek. "That looks so painful."

Happiness smiles, her soft hand reaches to wipe the drop of empathy from her company's face. "Physical pain reminds me that I'm still alive. Especially when you're hurting really badly inside." Pause. "You would know."

She looks at her own wrists.

The scars have already healed. There's no way she would have known.

"Right." she shrugs it off. "Let me guess, you read palms?"

"No. I read people."

I really like the last line, very effective. The fact that you use 'she' for both characters confused my hungover brain at points, but the metaphor you have going here is very nice indeed.

Thanks. -smiles- I know the "she" bits are horribly confusing.

This is sweet, in a sad sort of way. Nicely written though.
