Original here: www.deviantart.com/art/Werewolβ¦Some thoughts. Take what you want from it and disregard the rest.
And yes, the one on the right is leaning forward instead. A human could use its large feet to stabilize itself in that position, but a werewolf standing on its toes would have to arrange its legs and paws a bit differently from what I've drawn to not fall over.

Thanks so much for the critique! I do have a question though if you'd be willing to indulge me.Β It's about the pose, specifically your critique on the position of the lowe body. I realized after posting the image that the *feet* are definitely wrong (they are a side view when they should be more 3/4ths-ey) and the legs are *definitely* too thin, but why is the positioning wrong? The pose I was going for btw was a sort of noble one (slightly arched back, chest out, chin down). Why is the character's right leg out of position? Or I guess maybe a better question, what are the rules of thumb for placing the legs? Legs are definitely a weak point of mine, so any advice you could give with regard to them would be welcome.
As far as your critique on werewolf concept itself, I'm trying out different styles for them. I have a project I'm working on that involves a couple werewolf characters, one of whom is more of the "noble savage" type (so this style pertains to him, though I'm still feeling out his look), while the other is more in line with your description. I have a few other werewolf pics in my gallery in different styles (though they're all older pics, so not as good as this one =x), and might post some of the concepts I've been doing as practice lately somewhere down the line if I make them into more finished projects. tl;dr, I agree with your assessment but have reasons for defying the norm
Also, I absolutely love your "more civilized werewolf" X3

I'd dare say its about balance!
I'd like to add in here that I see Bleke's point on the posing of your character, let me try to elaborate and be as clear as possible:
www.worldwidefeatures.com/pictβ¦
You character's hind legs are bent to the front, if you could follow the spinal cord, you'll realize that to keep balance, backbones should have to bend to balance (just as the puppy in the middle does) Tho, I also think that maybe the suggested pose is not quite right either.. maybe, as thepuppy on the left does, is just a matter of stretching out the legs and balance the guy.
You'll then have to be very careful on the collar bone because "werewolves" seem to have a chest of humanly structure and the rest of them is animal, the arms will pose a challenge to balance if you place them either too foward or backward on the chest

Not at all! I'm just an amature so it's more likely that I made a mistake in drawing the pose than you misinterpreted it heh. I'm hoping to get really good someday so constructive critiques are always welcome
Thanks for the reference pic, that's certainly a novel way to get bipedal canine references
