Wasn't about to miss out on a great opportunity to make some fan art for one of my favorite shows! Here's to hoping to be a semifinalist just so my piece will be viewed by Goro Taniguchi...though I have my doubts it'll happen.This is probably the most effort I've put into a piece, each character was hand modeled from scratch (starting with just a grey cube) in Blender 3D using reference images taken from the contest page, the trailer, and previous episodes of Code Geass. And yes, Lelouch was modeled 4 times. The Lancelot gave me the hardest time, I guess I need some practice modeling mecha. Who do you think I modeled best?
Symbolism/Art Choices
We see fallen Emperor Lelouch from the last season on the far left. His revival is depicted though the three 'ghosts', each getting less transparent and more opaque as we move from right to left (the same direction you'd read a Japanese manga). We see CC helping him out of his body and his friends helping him into his Zero outfit symbolizing his return to power with the help of his friends.
He ascends a total of four levels arriving at the peak as Zero and standing next to Nunnally, symbolizing his final goal, a perfect world in which he and Nunnally can live. It also appears that this last movie will focus on rescuing Nunnally, hopefully he will be reunited with her at the end.
Why four levels? In my culture (I'm half Taiwanese) the number four is considered unlucky since it's pronunciation is similar to the word for death. However in this piece of life and death it seemed fitting. Plus the 3 steps, 3 being a lucky number in Western culture, seems to balance out the luck equation suggesting that it is strategy not luck that will lead Lelouch to his final goal. The clash of Western and Asian culture there also seemed to go along with the whole Britannia vs Japan thing.
Lastly the colors of the stairs. The purple symbolizes royalty and the alternating black and white symbolize moving forward on a chess board. Kings start on the opposite color so I placed 'white king' Lelouch on a black tile, while 'black king' Zero stands on a white tile.

I love Code Geass and the way that it doesn't make the main character some perfect person, rather showing how any side of a war can be viewed as good or bad when viewed at from different angles, thus making me question the definition of good or bad. The characters are great and the plot definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Thus, I hope I can get a copy of the movie through this since it is unlikely I'll get to watch it in theaters otherwise (the rest of my family isn't quite as interested in this show as I am). But hey, either way this was a pleasure to make, I definitely enjoyed every minute of it and am pretty satisfied with the result.

Yeah, took a pretty long time to model all this, but it provided a good way to take a break form all the crazy schoolwork I've been getting in the last few weeks. It was quite an interesting challenge, had to pull frames from the trailer to use as reference. Makes you realize just how fast paced the trailer is when you're trying to catch the few frames a character appears in and find the one that could be best used as reference XD. Really enjoyed making this though, love how the characters turned out. It was such an amazing show, might watch it again one of these days.

Praise from an artist I look up to (I absolutely adore your works)! I couldn't be happier to see this. (^‿^) Thanks so much, I really hope they can all work together in the final movie. I think that's a place Lelouch could improve, he could place a bit more trust and faith in his friends. Really hope he can finally be reunited with Nunnally as well, she's such a kindhearted character who deserves a happy end.
