So it was that the angel Cassiel descended from her heaven, draw by the whispers of God, to seek out the demon Lord Mammon. To and from his hell she came and went as she pleased, some days she would be gone as quickly and quietly as she came, other days she would linger, speaking with him of the world at large, the things she’s had seen and the things he craved. Amused by her presence in the boiling hell and frustrated by how untouchable she was, he took her into his empty halls amid all his collected treasures, into the palace that had been so devoid of sound beyond the clink of his gold. There she sat with him, he’s own dark secret, consorting with the highest of angels in his halls that no other being entered.

But an angel Cassiel was, and like an angel she did leave his hall and only then did Mammon look about his palace and suddenly feel the silence that lingered there without her voice, how the gold had lost it’s beauty after she sat among it. Then did Mammon cast his greedy eyes heavenward and beheld her with others, how immovably her heart would not be swayed by any other being and he wanted her, so he drew her back to his hell, into his gem filled court. Thus it happened when she stood in his presence, he grabbed her about the wings, and with no word nor protest from her, fixed a collar about her neck and declared. “Never shall you leave these walls again, for you are my own, and here you shall sit with me to be the envy of the hells, my most prized possession. I don’t care about love or the heart, but you are the Virgin of the Heavens and now you belong to me, the Queen of Hell.”

And he dressed her in the most gorgeous of his gems, wrapped her in the most precious silks, so everyone would know his great conquest, his claim over the highest of angels. Neatly did she sit at his feet, crooning to him, her head in his lap as he stroked her hair, whispering to him things to fill his palace with sounds, her footfalls, her dresses and wings. And proudly did he overlook her, because of the collar he had placed about her neck, Mammon overlooked that Cassiel’s virtue was patience and she had been sent by God.
