Description WARNING: Huge file!

Okay, first things first, like I said this is my first tutorial and it only shows the way I do my pictures. There are many other ways to use SAI and I don't say that my way is the correct way to do it.
Furthermore I use a tablet, so for those who are using a mouse some settings and options will not work the same.

I also know that there are for sure many typos and grammar mistakes, so it would be really nice if you could inform if you find anything. Really just tell me if I got mistakes here, I want to correct them and update this tutorial without mistakes.

And I want to apologize, I wanted to go trough my messages today and commenting on all those deviations in my inbox, but instead I made this tutorial...
I will do those replies and comments, but right now I'm too sleepy, also it is 5am and the sun starts to rise.

Every kind of feedback is very welcome!

okay uwu

Blitzkatze In reply to novaBisharp [2012-05-28 18:39:38 +0000 UTC]

Hm, I don't know why your SAI does't have this option..
But it's not a necessity =3 Instead of doing your shading with grey (which isn't the best thing to do anyway) just play around and pick a color that is darker that your base color. In case your not satisfied with the color and in case you have the shadings on a different layer you can go to the option filter and use the hue and saturation settings to change the color to your liking.

This is really REALLY good - only problem is my stabilizer apparently doesn't work :S Which is the whole point with SAI (in my case); hope to get it fixed so I can continue outlining like this

Your "little tutorial" is a little more than that! It's simple and sums up everything important about both color and line out I loved it!

Wow, this... is a looooot of information *lol* I hope I can come back to this later, because I really like your inking and colouring style and I'd love to learn to do it! Though probably I'd just do what I normally do and incorporate elements of it but not emulate exactly Which is probably best b/c then we won't have people saying I'm ripping you off, lol!

Hahahaha my little pony
I agree with you on how to do highlights, but I wouldn't really suggest using shade for shading. Shade just...it looks cheap almost? Like WAAAY too saturated :/ For shades, I use multiply with the one color (skin, hair, eyes, ect.) with the marker tool or water tool. I honestly would only use shade, for example, the tail and mane, and I would try to make it really subtle.
~hope this helps (:

Blitzkatze In reply to ishii-kame [2011-06-25 11:43:38 +0000 UTC]

I know I know, using grey for shades and highlights is always kinda cheap, yet it is a pretty fast method. I would only suggest it if you don't want to do a good and detailed shading anyway. Hmm, I don't know, I tend to use shade because I got the feeling that multiply makes everything a bit more greyish as shade. You can solve the problem with the high saturation by changing the opacity, normally it works fine this way.

Well and those kind of shading methods are a bit stupid for ponies anyway, when I draw those I normally use the original shadings from the show.
I could do another tutorial to show how to do a more complex and better shading, I also should use another picture as example.

Thank you for your feedback
