Description
Five years of CGing improvement, from really bad to sort of bad.I deleted some of the more embarrassing older pieces in my gallery, but left most of them for the purpose of showing the gap between my art now and my art in the past.
I hope people find this inspiring to some extent. Anyone can improve. Jiayou! ^^
(Will scrap this later.)

Very inspirational, thanks for showing this c: I know how you feel about the earlier ones. I don't like to look at what I did even a year or two ago (so ugly).

I just realized I have a couple of questions XD
It's incredible how you improved...
But how did you do it? Did you make yourself draw every day?
And do you think it's a bad thing to use references when you're first starting out? I'm starting to get into it, but as soon as the pencil hits the paper I realize "I don't know how to draw that position." But then I worry that if I use a piece of art with a similar pose as a reference, I'll end up copying the entire style.
So how do you avoid copying somebody else's style when using their art to practice?

Blizz-Mii In reply to H-x-S [2009-04-17 00:51:26 +0000 UTC]
Heh, here we go...
1. I did not draw everyday, nor did I bother trying to draw every day. Drawing too frequently, from my personal experiences, drains creativity and encourages quantity over quality. (aka less improvement)
2. Drawing for the sole purpose of improvement is not fun and not very productive, in my opinion. (I draw primarily for stress relief in these hard academic times. )
3. Everyone necessarily begins by copying. Copying isn't bad per se as long as you're not posting your copied art and flaunting it as if you were some kind of genius. From what I've been seeing, people have an originality complex where they feel they can't draw anything because it's been done before. It's stupid. Just draw what you feel like drawing and be done with it. Your "own style" develops as you merge together existing styles you like and add a touch of your personal flavor. Nothing is entirely original; all of the influences we get in our visual world influences how we draw, because unless you're doing abstract, the shapes and colors and whatnot must come from what we see. ...Whoops, getting a little into theory there. I'll stop now. xD
I hope this serves more as advice than as a general rant.

I wanted to try to start drawing. I drew 3 or 4 drawings and my best friend told me I should continue. But I thought I wasn't good enough to really improve. And now I see what you did in 2004, and what you do now !!! That's unbelievable ! Now I want to try again.
Thank you, I think you gave me the power to work harder and to be patient ^^.
