XR (short for Experimental Ranger) is a Toon robot that sports Star Command's colors (plum purple, lime green and snow white) and a simplistic version of the emblem for Star Command his chassis' front plate. He has a gold-colored head with yellow optics, encased in purple circles and green eyelids, looking like car's headlights. However, sometimes the optics appear green (if scared), blue (if under Caelan's control) or red (if enraged) depending on his mood. He possesses short, but extendable arms and legs which can stretch out to any length he wants. He also possesses continuous treads encased in green for feet and purple four-fingered hands. His head is surrounded by an oval-shaped glass dome. Originally XR was a typical robot, what Caelan calls "obedient", imitating all Buzz's actions to learn how to act as a ranger. However, after his reprogramming, he developed a huge ego and sarcastic humor, but friendly towards his friends, especially Caelan. Despite having great intelligence, which was typical of any robot, XR's personality is wisecracking via the fact that he tends to crack jokes at the worst times on occasion. He also gets cocky after a single success, yet unsure that he can repeat the same success twice, fearing that Commander Nebula will have him scrapped and sent to the Smelter's Yard, a nightmare that never came to pass, as he is a Nova-Terrian now. Despite being created by the LGMs, XR believes that Commander Nebula is his father on account of his signature, and initials, on the paperwork during his project stage is what allowed his creators to give him life, and tends to point that out much to the commander's annoyance and the confusion of his teammates, especially to Buzz Lightyear himself. Ever since Caelan became a Space Ranger, XR became his partner, which he treasures greatly. He possesses a deep vengeance against the Vulturans , due to their scavenging behavior upon spaceships, space stations and most disturbingly, robots. Being the very first Nova-Terrian Tech-elemental being, XR has many abilities, including flight via jetpack or rocket. He can pull out multiple guns from his back and hands, and also has one big gun in his chest. His chest compartment can hold a wide variety of items, some of them nonsensical. He has many other features such as a built-in stove, a jamming signal, among others. He has the ability to be rebuilt after any damage he receives, either by the LGMs that built him or via self-repair systems, depending on severity. XR was created by the LGMs as the second robot Space Ranger , programmed to learn from the top Ranger, Buzz Lightyear . On his first mission, he impersonated Buzz repeatedly during their attempt to save the LGM homeworld from the Evil Emperor Zurg 's Hornet army, and was destroyed by Buzz's old partner in Zurg's employment, Warp Darkmatter (now a Villain). The LGMs attempted to rebuild him, but the loss of their Uni-Mind to Zurg left them off their game, resulting in XR gaining a soul and with it, a heart and mind of his own, rendering XR a living being. Like all machines, XR is a immune to neuralization. XR is also very loyal to Caelan, even to the point of even letting himself get blown up willingly. When XR needs repair, he talks Caelan through it to help him pull himself together, literally. XR is now somewhat glad that Caelan's back and more powerful than ever and alongside the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy, XR blasts the forces of evil "To Infinity and Beyond"!
