Free brush packs are great on most versions of photoshop. Very helpful with the painty side of it.
(On this picture I just used the main brush tool in a kind of sketchy way and just painted [I have a drawing pad.] over a loose block colour the shadows on a seperate layer bellow it.)

my version's very old, and the paint tool's pretty wobbly so i usually try to avoid it, but i like using photoshop for adding certain details and effects.
(it came out very nicely uwu i usually sketch out the lineart with a pen tool, fill it, and do the shading and lighting with a pencil tool and a clipped layer. i don't paint very often unless i'm doing a detailed picture uwu)
