Description Just some practice with planets and field of vision/focus.
Rip it apart.
EDIT: Its not blurry anymore... I guess it isn't particularly realistic, and I'm no so sure I used it correctly here anyway.

EDIT AGAIN: Fixed up some small things like compositional issues

Ok.

That's a boring name for a beautiful piece like this.

The Ever-resplendant Magnifique Of Perfection; That is, bloknayrb and planets.

No? Too long? ;(

Technically too long for deviantArt, but I think I can adopt that as the official name

I like it ...
I think the moon is a bit too far out of focus ... as it (from this perspective) appears fairly close to the planet.. just my thoughts on it)

You're probably right...

I'm not sure how your field of view settings work so I'm not too sure that it would be able to be fixed -- Blenders has a 'focal marker' that comes from the camera - and it takes all items in a range forward and behind and renders them clear - and then all else blurs according to distance from that mark ... there is a setting that allows me to change the range of focus (ie how far forward and behind the mark is clear) and a setting to move the mark along the range of the camera...

Oh... I didn't use a 3D program, I just merged all of the moon's layers and used gaussian blur... I removed it though, it was a tad unrealistic, and it gave me an excuse to paint some craters.

Just couldn't figure out blender, thats all

Try again (Blender that is) - and if ya get stumped - message me... I'll gladly help

Consider this - how much better would your planets be if they were truly 3d movable objects - now what it you could do several transluscent layers for that planets atmoshere... and what if your lighting would always be correctly hitting ALL of the planets in your scene.. that's what Blender would do for you... your talents with the 2d would come in when you made the textures for the layers of the planets - and of course the space background for those planets to be.... )

I suppose... I just barely managed to get a texture onto a ball in blender, but it still looked terrible... I just can't figure it out at all, every button you press changes all the other buttons, and most of them have obscure purposes I don't understand.

deja vu -- I felt the same way when I first saw the layout of Blender...

Tell you what I'll do - I'm going to create a planet, I'm going to UV Unwrap it and then get you to work your magic on that UV Unwrap (it's a .tga image file) once you do that, I'll wrap it back on to the planet and do a render with it ...

I think I'm going to do a Blender Tutorial of how to unwrap / re wrap UV because there just isn't a good one available -(and most of them are hit this button and then hit that button -- and I'm more of a mouse clicker... keyboard short cuts just confuse me most of the time....)

No problem - I started on it but, my system was acting a bit odd - found the issue (a game server was 'auto-starting' and using a ton of my memory and processor power... - needless to say I'm UN-INSTALLING THAT ... )

It will take a bit to un-install, but I'll get back to making that tutorial as soon as it's done...
