Description
Medic couldn't remember the last time he'd been so warm in his bed, it seeped through his body and into his bones. He smiled to himself through the haze of sleep, and folded his arms underneath the pillow his head rested on. He stared lazily at the half-open bathroom door before closing his eyes, exhaling contentedly.Something shifted against his back, and terror shot through him as he realised he did remember the last time he'd been so warm in bed. He kicked away from the warmth, violently, and ran for the bathroom, locking the door behind him tightly as it rattled in the frame, a fist slamming against it noisily.
"Go avay!" He shrieked, bracing himself against the door. Soldier wasn't going to get him twice in one day, he was damn sure of that.
"Doktor?"
Everything seemed to freeze. A soft groan escaped Medic as he slid down the door, and stared up at the ceiling, concentrating on his breathing until he felt he could trust his own voice. "H-Heavy?"
"Am here, Doktor." There was a pause. "What happened?"
Breathing heavily, Medic exhaled. "I...I don't vant...to..."
A loud sigh made him sag. "Unlock the door."
Stretching an arm out shakily, Medic hesitated, before he flicked the lock open, and rested his chin on his knees, watching the large, fluffy white slippers pad into view. Heavy sighed noisily.
"I t'ink is time for food." Heavy extended his hand, which Medic took, shivering slightly. Heavy wrapped an arm around him, and pushed him down into an armchair, where Medic's hands twisted together nervously. "Drink?" Heavy called from the ajoined kitchen.
"I...Tea."
"I'll 'ave one while you've got the pot on." Sniper groaned, sitting on a couch near Medic. "How you doin' Doc?"
Medic shrank back. "I see. Your Sniper a bit of an arse, is 'e?" Sniper scratched at his cheek. "What'd 'e do?"
"He helped zhe Soldier capture me if I tried to run." Medic whispered, his hands wringing together tightly.
Sniper grimaced, and stretched his legs out, Medic watching as they crossed at his ankles, his hat tilting over his eyes as he sank on the couch. "Remind me to use me 'untsman against the blighters. Nothing says vengance like an arrow to the kneecap."
Medic blinked at Sniper. "Vhy..."
"Eh?" Sniper sat up slightly, and looked contemplative. "There are some lines no people should cross, mate." He settled back down, his hat falling down. "And I'll be happy to kick those bastards back into line with you."
Medic blinked as Heavy pressed a hot cup against his hands, and sat down heavily.
The effect was instantaneous, the couch acting like a gigantic see-saw, the couch jumping violently and throwing Sniper up in the air.
"CHROIST ALMIGHTY!" Sniper landed back on the couch, and Heavy passed him his coffee. "Heavy, mate, do me a favour and warn me!" He breathed. Medic laughed, but caught himself, and turned his attention back to his tea.
Heavy chuckled, and bit into a slice of toast he was holding. "Am sorry, Sniper." He seemed to notice something. "Where is Spy?"
"Right here." Spy slinked across to sit across Sniper's lap, and Medic ducked his head to sip at his tea as Sniper groaned in exasperation, lifting his coffee away from Spy's path.
"Do you 'ave to sit on me lap?"
"You're taking up practically zhe whole couch, Sniper." Spy plucked his hat off his head lazily, and tutted sympathetically at Medic. "Zhat black eye looks painful."
Medic jumped when he realised Spy was talking to him. "Oh! It's not zhat bad. I'm...I'm fine."
Sniper frowned. "The hell did you do? Run into a door?"
Medic pointed at Heavy. "He hit me."
Heavy chuckled. "Needed to knock Doktor out." He brushed crumbs down from his hands. "We fight tomorrow, yes?"
"Oui." Spy glanced over at Medic. "I took zhe liberty of fetching your weapons last night. I hope you're ready to face your former team mates." He blew a cloud of smoke up at the ceiling.
Medic's jaw tightened. Spy noticed, and slipped free from Sniper's grasp. "Docteur. Tomorrow, you either fight with us or fight with them. Either way, you fight." He held his hand out towards Sniper, who reluctantly accepted the hand as Spy pulled him up.
"We're going to prepare." Spy grinned, tugging Sniper along behind him.
"We all know you're going to go fuck all day!" Scout shouted after them, digging into the fridge. Heavy laughed, and patted the couch. "Sit with me, Doktor."
Medic hesitated for a moment before moving to sit next to Heavy, his eyes downcast. They sat together in silence as Medic sipped at his tea quietly, Heavy watching the news with him quietly.
"You weren't watching that, were you?"
Heavy waved Soldier on. "Is Soldier's TV time. We watch together."
Soldier grinned, and eased himself down into the vacant armchair. "How're you finding our base, Doc?"
Medic remained quiet. Heavy cleared his throat. "Doktor is not used to being treated kindly, Soldier."
"Well, I hope you're fit for the tactical meeting later." Soldier stretched out his legs, groaning slightly. "Think we could do with a fresh pair of eyes."
Medic's heart lept into his throat. "You hold tactical meetings?"
"First step of war. Don't go in without a plan." Soldier grunted. He looked tired and worn, Medic noted. "What?"
"You're not sleeping well?"
Soldier sat up a little straighter. "As a matter of fact, I'm not, Doc." He smiled. "Why, you know a remedy?"
Medic looked thoughtful. "Try a cup of varm milk half an hour before sleeping. If that doesn't vork...try adjusting your thermostat to something a little bit...varm?"
Soldier looked startled. "How did you know my room was cold?"
Medic smiled weakly. "Lucky guess?"
Soldier frowned, but decided not to press the subject. "I'll see you two in the war room later." He sank lower into his chair with a groan, and Heavy glanced over at Medic. "Come, Doktor."

I smirked at the 'arrow to the knee' reference and laughed at the "CHROIST ALMIGHTY!"

If I were a braver woman, this would be up on tf2chan.net, but I'm really not XD
I've still quite a while to go for this particular story arc, it's a lot of fun. I'm trying not to slip into something "too cliche" heh.
Glad you like it! I'll have the next part up as soon as life gets out of the damn way!
